Still Dirty
|
A bruised and
battered Raven "Red" Gomez finds herself on a flight with her
‘today' love, Q, as they barely escape the angry, betrayed
Bacon. Red is reaping a lot of the treacherous lifestyle that
she has sown over a period of time, and it's not a good look
nor a perfect fit! Q is pissed off as he discovers just how
manipulative and cunning Red really is and has plans to ship
her sheisty ace back to the states ASAP. Meanwhile back in the
states, a vengefully distraught Bacon catches a cab to Foxy's
for a little forbidden sex, ego-stroking, and info on the street
action. Bacon treks back to his home and encounters the new
owner, who happens to be his long lost homeboy, Maurice, a
professional basketball player now. The two team up as Reece
introduces Bacon, now known as Isadore, to a finer way of
living the life of luxury.
Mekel has made Kera the new 'wife' upon Terry's botched kidnapping
scheme. The couple are enjoying each other as they bask in the glow
of parenthood. Mekel is still
haunted by the memories of his past with Terry and is second
guessing some of the choices he made that may have forced
Terry to desperate actions.
Ms. Stringer has called her readers back as she finishes the
sordid tale of Raven ‘Red' Gomez and the many friends and foes
that fall victim to her carnivorous lifestyle. As a sequel,
she does indeed tie all loose ends. But as exhilarating a read
as Dirty Red was, Still Dirty is lacking the original
excitement and suspenseful nuance with the true gangsta
mentalities that past characters exuded with the first
introduction. Basically all the characters are weak, Red is
inconsistent in her actions, and even the suspense is shallow.
I recommend it for all that want to know if Red finally got
back some of the dirt that she so callously dished out.

Don't Ever
Tell is a thrilling new book by Brandon Massey and
shockingly, it's not a horror book. The
book is about a woman named Rachel who moved to Atlanta,
GA to make a fresh start. With a new salon, new husband,
and new home, things are going very well for Rachel. It seems as
if she has left her old life behind, until her dangerous
past starts to catch up with her. Rachel's past, in the
form of a man named Dexter, is not in a forgiving mood or
willing to forgive Rachel of her past transgressions
against him. In his eyes, Rachel is the reason why he was
doing time in a maximum secure facility. He longs for the
day when he will make her and all of her loved ones
suffer for putting him behind bars. He soon gets his
chance after he escapes while being transported to
another prison facility. Yes, Dexter will do everything
in his power to find Rachel and make her suffer a slow and
painful death.
Whenever I hear
the name Brandon Massey, the first words to come to my
mind are horror fiction. I was truly shocked and
pleasantly surprised when I finally realized that Don't Ever Tell was a crime novel. The imagination that this man has
is incredible! I can honestly say that Mr. Massey makes
the transition from horror to crime very well. This book
held my attention from beginning to end, and the ending was not
disappointing. I give this book 4 1/2 stars only because I
believe it took a little too much time to find out exactly how
Rachel was involved with Dexter's incarceration. Other than
that, Don't Ever Tell is a
very good read that I highly recommend and is a good example of
how "What's done in the DARK, comes to
LIGHT."

Grayson Grove's
bachelor, Eli Grayson, has one dream and that is to have a
worthy newspaper for the growing all-Black town. Due to lack
of funds, Eli was forced to close the town's newspaper, the
Gazette. Upon receiving a letter from G.W. Hicks, owner of
the largest Black newspaper syndicates in the country,
Grayson's excitement is limitless. That soon puts
him in a precarious predicament: now he's in need of a wife
to placate Mr. Hicks' pledge to back the newspaper venture.
Behind door #1 is the only daughter of lumber beast, Adam
Crowley, the pragmatic Jewel. She's content wearing
trousers, planting flowers, and tending to the needs of her
father and five brothers. Secretly fantasizing about Eli,
she's stunned when he requests her help with his ploy to
gain Mr. Hicks backing in re-opening the Gazette. Against
her better judgment, she consents and finds herself with a
sullied reputation unless she does the unthinkable: correct
the lie that she and Eli presented to Mr. Hicks.
Snap, crackle, and pop would be an appropriate description
of the sparks that sizzle when the newlyweds accept the
other's vices, and Eli exhibits his skills as to why he's
known as the Casanova of Cass County and sensually deflowers
the young virgin. The woman who caused Eli to bring shame to
his family resurfaces with many secrets, and her malodorous
scent of trouble soon follows as she maliciously begins her
trek to destroy the men in the town.
Ms. Jenkins fluency in creativity flows so effortlessly that you
naturally become enchanted with each character and their
storylines. I've yet to put one of her books down and felt
anything but pure enjoyment! Her characters are so loveable
that with each read, she amazes you with their individual
personalities. They're realistic, bear numerous flaws, but
their hearts and souls are so full of love and life,
reaching the ending is actually depressing. Jewel is a
refreshing, compelling read that is innocent yet has
numerous risqué scenes. It is mos def so hard to say
good-bye to each of Ms. Jenkins' reads!!!!

In Can I Get a Witness, ReShonda Tate Billingsley does an
excellent job with the storyline. At some point in the book,
you think you know where she's going with story, but then it
takes an unexpected twist. This book is a real page turner
because of some things that happen that you never would have thought would happen. There was never a dull moment from the
start of the book to the end. You will laugh, cry, and get
angry with the characters. While reading the book, you
can tell each emotion and expression that the characters

much detail, but it was just enough to know what was going

Up Pops The Devil is an innovative novel by Angela Benson.
Benson brings us a classic tale of a ex-con that is trying to turn
over a new leaf. You will root for Preacher as he tries to grow in
his walk with Christ. This story shows that sometimes when a person
is making a change in their life there will be people that will try

The Legacies
|
Morgan Daniels-Foster was excited about
going away for college. She knew this would be a challenge
since she has been groomed for the family business since she
was born. Morgan grew up in a family that kept to themselves.
They rarely dealt with people outside of the family. Every single
detail of Morgan's
future was planned for her. That was
until she met Noah Oliver Stephens.
Noah's future was basically the same except his life was headed
towards the pulpit. His dad was a minister and his mom just
knew he was going to follow in his dad's footsteps. Noah had
other plans, and just didn't want to break his parents'
hearts. When the two freshmen crossed paths by an
unfortunate circumstance, their future plans changed and tragedy
hit both of there families. Two
young people with different lifestyles fall in love. Both have
a strong faith in God, but will their upbringing push them further
apart or pull them closer together?
I thoroughly enjoyed how Michelle Larks developed the
main characters Noah & Morgan. Through their lives, you could
see how they matured from the first time they met
when Morgan was seventeen and Noah was eighteen. As they
matured in age, you could read how their dialogue changed.
Every time you would think that the plot was becoming
predictable, it would change and make the plot a lot more
interesting. The Legacies was indeed a great read.

Dream Runner has the
potential to be a very good book. The storyline was
great. It is the excessive verbiage that draws the story
out. There were several subplots and characters that
were overdeveloped. The one subplot dealing with the
doctor that hit as well as cared for Marlea was not
developed well enough. The
extra pages seems as if they were space fillers that
added nothing to the overall story. Dream Runner
would have been an excellent book without all the "fluff."

Teems expertly brings us a classic story of "what if". This
story is set in present day, which makes the storyline all the
more haunting. There are many social and political issues in
this novel that will really make the reader think. You will feel
the passion of Aeneas as he tries to make sense of what's going
on while trying to protect his family and friends. The atrocities
in this story are so realistic that readers will want to
continue reading just to find out what happens next.
Regression is an awe-inspiring novel that is for those that
are looking to read something different from the norm.

Have you ever been in love with two
people at the same time even though you knew it could
end in consequences you would have to face? Eve Spencer
is a young mother to her infant daughter Tami who had
the perfect fairytale relationship...that is until it
ends in heartbreak when Eva is forced into reality. Her
boyfriend walks out, her stepfather passes, and
she's forced to move back home with her mother.
Chris just moved back into town
after a failed attempt to become an actor in L.A.
He used to be Eve's best friend back in high school. But
could there be more to Chris returning back on the
scene? Damon appears to have it all...the handsome
looks, a successful career, and a bunch of cars and
homes. But are all those things enough for a
relationship?
Torn was a very good read. It
showed the maturity and growth of a young woman. How
family issues play a huge role in how you choose your
next relationship. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the
storyline. Eve had to make a choice, follow her heart or
follow lust. Being in love with two men may not be so
far-fetched, but Chris and Damon have much more in
common than you think, and "Torn" definitely had a
realistic twisted love triangle.

Darren Wade seems like the perfect man. He is college
educated, has a good job, and loves his mother. But there is one
problem: He is HIV positive. Instead of focusing on taking care
of himself, Darren does the unthinkable and intentionally has
unprotected sex with numerous women. He wants to infect as many
women as possible with HIV to get revenge for the woman that
infected him. Darren hits a snag in his plans when he meets and
falls in love with the woman of his dreams. Will he let her know
his HIV status or will he keep this a secret from her as well?
Mr. HIV is a thought -provoking novel by I.B. Freeman.
Freeman gives readers a bird’s-eye view of someone living with
HIV. You will see Darren going to support groups and even see
the physical and emotional changes that he goes through with
this disease. You will also be appalled by his unconscionable
behavior. The lesson in this story is that everyone must protect
themselves at all times. This author did a good job at providing
thoroughly researched information in regards to HIV and AIDS.
However, this novel was still lacking in the areas of character
and storyline development. It would have been better to have
more interaction with Darren, his close friends, and his mother
in this story to make it more interesting, especially after his
HIV diagnosis. There also should have been a little more
background information on Craig, Reggie, and Joan since those
were the only other people that Darren was close to besides his
mom. Mr. HIV is still a cautionary tale that everyone can
read and learn from.
