Sassy
 |
Sassy Davenport is a romance novelist that has a legion of
devoted fans. She can write perfect "happily ever after"
endings but she still seeks true love in her own life.
Successful architect Norris Yoshito walks into one of Sassy's
book signings and he is enthralled by her. Sassy and Norris
soon enter a satisfying relationship. Things take a disturbing
turn for the worse when a string of murders lead directly to
Norris. Is Norris really the man of Sassy's dreams or is he
really a cold and calculated murderer?
Sassy is a riveting novel by Gloria Mallette.
Mallette once again brought her innovative storytelling skills
with this book. The character development was one of the
things that made this a standout novel. You get to see Sassy
as not only a successful novelist but as a compassionate woman
when she deals with her cousin that's dying of AIDS. As you
get further into this story, you'll keep wondering if Norris
is really this Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde character that he is
purported to be. This story shaped up to be a surprising
mystery thriller that will have you at the edge of your seat
until the last page. No Gloria Mallette novel would be
complete without one of her jaw-dropping twists that will
surely delight readers. Sassy is a fast-paced and
intriguing novel that is another first class winner for Gloria
Mallette.

While tallying up daily
profits from drug dealing, Nard and Poncho fall victim to an
attempted robbery that ends up in a triple homicide. Having to
cover all bases to secure his freedom, Nard goes to Sticks to
clean up his mess. With two murders already under his belt,
he's on a mission to eliminate all witnesses that hold his
future in their hands.
Daisy Fothergill, a stripper, gold digger, and jump off of
Sticks, is about to become involved in an explosive mixture
for the love of money. In the midst of sexing Sticks for
money, Daisy accepts $2,000 as payment to become Nard's alibi.
Naïve to the serious issue that she has become an integral
party to, Daisy finds herself in a dangerous liaison with cold
blooded killers.
Alibi is a mediocre read with an enhancement of
suspense. The plot is acceptable, the characters are ordinary,
and there really aren't any riveting people in the entire
storyline. There are minor lessons that could have been better
developed such as the mother-daughter relationship and the
admonishment that existed. Each time a scene was showing
promise with a bit more depth, it was cut off too soon.
Alibi is a quick read that with better development of
characters and plots, had potential to be a notable read.
Suspense, manipulation, murder, and intimidation centered
around mafia ties abide within the pages of Ms. Woods' latest
production.

Gillian, Reese, and
Lauren are back with more secrets, lies, and scandal. Gillian
has always prided herself on not being like her master gold
digging mother Imelda. But she may just be a second version of
her mother now that she's married to wealthy superstar
producer Brandon Russell. Brandon launched her career by
helping her land a lead role in the Oscar-nominated film Gold
Diggers. From the outside looking in, Gillian's life looks
near perfect...but looks can be deceiving. Thoughts of Brandon
having something to do with her friend Paulette's murder and
being involved in other illegal activities plagues Gillian's
mind. Things turn for the worse when some potentially damaging
photos that Gillian doesn't remember taking show up on the
internet. Unbeknownst to Gillian, her mother Imelda has a
secret of her own that could turn her world upside down. Reese
is happily wealthy thanks to a hefty divorce settlement from
her ex-husband NBA player Chris Nolan. She's on cloud nine
until her child becomes sick. With her child in a life and
death situation, Reese has to try to save her child's life any
way she can. But will she risk uncovering a scandalous secret
in order to do it? Lauren is in absolute bliss running around
the world with her boyfriend Gideon. Lauren is finally ready
to come back to the U.S. to reunite with her parents and
friends. But Lauren is in for the shock of her life when she
uncovers what her mother Mildred has been up to.
Friends & Fauxs is the perfect sequel to Gold
Diggers by Tracie Howard. Howard expertly brings back the
characters of the previous book while adding even more drama
than ever before. You see how the tragic death of Paulette
really changed the lives of Gillian, Reese, and Lauren. Howard
also does a good job of incorporating strong secondary
characters into this story like Max, Imelda, and Mildred.
Readers will be shocked when it is finally revealed who
murdered Paulette and why. Although this is a sequel, you do
not have to read Gold Diggers in order to read this
book. There is enough background information given from the
first book that you can read this without feeling like you
missed something. However, after reading Friends and Fauxs you
may want to go back and pick up the first book. Friends &
Fauxs is full of the page-turning glitz, glamour and high
society drama that you can expect from Tracie Howard.

to clean up their dirty money.
Trae and Marvin eagerly embark on a
business proposal that Tasha's cousin Stephon brings to their

thugs and their ladies that love them. The
suburban lifestyle isn't all peaches and cream as the families
can't seem to break the cycle and the ties that bind them to
the powerful dons and their all seeing eyes.
Thug Lovin'
is
a dynamic novel that continues the legacy of the notorious
thugs that we're still in love with four books later. Wahida
presents us with even more spectacular plots as well as
shocking revelations that have the intensity to cause you to
question past judgment and views. In
reading Thug Lovin', I feel that Wahida has created
poignant scenes with more realistic scenarios, reactions,
mannerisms, and people. If I have to call it, I'll say
that it's a 360 degree turn in this read.
Complete with her signature steamy sex scenes, she
incorporates even more life-changing issues including
infidelity, physical and drug abuse, corrupt police, murder
and even more excitement than you can begin to imagine. Thug
Lovin' leaves us with another dreaded cliffhanger, but the
author's creativity leaves me stunned as well as speechless.
Although I did note a few discrepancies of information from
the previous reads, this is one of the most
compelling reads that I've encountered this year!
Wahida, you did your thang with this one! In my
personal opinion, this is your very best piece of work in all

If someone hurt the only person you
loved, could you accept that or would you seek revenge?
Vengeance is a good word to describe
Hoodfellas. It is the story of an ex-con who, upon
his release, tries to do the right thing. But when door after
door is closed in his face, he must resort back to the only
life he knows to gain his position to remain on top.
Deon, a.k.a. "Crazy D," was an ex-con who
came from a troubled background. After serving a 20-year bid
in prison, Deon is released and tries to do the right thing,
but no one is trying to hire an ex-con. When the only person
Deon loves and cares for is strung out and sentenced to
prison, he concocts a plan to seek revenge for his mother,
Serena. Looking to acquire what he feels is rightfully his,
will Deon succeed or will he return back to prison?
In her prime, Serena had everything a man
wanted...the looks and the body. Serena used that to her
advantage. Serena defined the true meaning of a hustler. Men
were like putty in her hands. Serena loved and craved designer
clothes and shoes...you name it, and she had to have it. In
order to maintain her lifestyle, Serena needed several men to
satisfy her desires and wants. Carelessness causes Serena's
life to spiral out of control. Will Serena remain on top, or
will this be the end and demise of Serena's terror?
Hoodfellas was definitely not your
typical gangster story. The book dealt with a man who
was trying to seek vengeance for his mother, but who was also
loyal to his friends who looked out for him through out his
life. Deon was a very smart man who could adapt to any
situation. He could become a corporate businessman and then be
a straight up thug. Corporate society wouldn't give him a
chance, so he took control of his life and devised a plan to
create his own success....but at what cost? Hoodfellas
showed the different facets of a man who wanted to do right,
but due to his environment, he is sucked back into the life he
knows.

Menace
|
Menace is a series of five short stories by
different authors that takes you into the life of sex,
money, murder, and power. These stories are gritty,
suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat from
the time I opened to page 1 until the end. What would
you do to protect your family and the ones you love?
To what extreme would you use to get what was
rightfully yours, and what at cost?
In the story "Cagney & Lacey," Cagney was a young
and rebellious boy who came from a troubled life. As a
delinquent youth, Cagney was charged as an adult and
sentenced fifteen years to life for a violent robbery
that went terribly wrong, leaving the son of Saudi
Arabia president dead. Cagney changed in the moment of
an eye from a young boy to a man causing havoc and
chaos.
Lacey was a young Mexican girl on a warpath. She
had just joined a gang and was no longer around due to
the hands of her father. When her father marries
another woman, Lacey blood boils, and secrets are
revealed. Lacey commits the most indiscernible crime
to teach her father a lesson.
Will Cagney & Lacey come together? The best way to
describe Cagney & Lacey would be Romeo & Juliet in
that their love story was not typical. They both came
from different coasts, have different cultures and
backgrounds, but the chemistry between them was
undeniable. When they are both released from prison,
they enter into the world of jewelry heists. With
their love being tested many ways, it is clear that
they will hold each other down to the end. When placed
in a situation that causes Lacey to make a choice,
will she hold her man down? Will Cagney give up his
life for the woman he cares and loves?
In "Keep It Gangsta," we enter the world of Derrick
"Dicer" Jordan, a death row inmate in his last hours
of his life for murdering a police officer. For the
gruesome crime, Dicer was sentenced to death, but
there are always two sides to a story.
From the age of 10, Derrick was your worst
nightmare. His motto was not to just get your respect,
but to instill fear. He established himself as
cold-hearted person who fought, killed, stabbed and
shot at whoever caused a problem.
Althea Jordan loved both her children Derrick and
Tonya. Tonya had made some bad choices when it came to
her personal life, and Derrick and his mother always
had her back and came to the rescue. Tonya starts
dating Detective Robert Smith, the arch-enemy and
police officer who is out to put Derrick away for
life. Derrick's life changes forever when he receives
a phone call from his mother. That phone call and
Derrick's loyalty for his family causes him to stand
as a man. Derrick took his fate and controlled his
destiny...even until the very end.
The short stories in Menace all had the
"survival of the fittest" mode. All five stories offer
some excitement, but at the same time show how people
handle different situations and how the choices affect
them and their loved ones.

into the mix that adds just the right amount of intrigue.
One + One = Three is more heavy on the erotic
side of romance and is not a traditional romance, so be
forewarned. One + One = Three is a wild,
titillating novel that is a great entry into the erotic
romance genre and will have you anticipating her next book
Two + One = Ecstasy.

First
Lady of Oakdale Baptist Church Denise Tate has a lifestyle
women would envy. She has a beautiful home in the suburbs.
Her husband, Senior Pastor of Oakdale Baptist, makes sure
his wife is satisfied. And to top if off, Denise has an
overflowing bank account. So, why would a woman like this be
unhappy and sneaking around behind her husband's back?
Senior Pastor Randy Tate is completely clueless as to
what his beautiful "devoted" wife has been doing. While he's
doing God's work, his wife is doing the work of the devil.
There's a saying "What's done in the dark. will come to the
light." Soon, First Lady Denise will find out that you
cannot always have your cake and eat it too. Sometimes, you
might choke.
With her husband unaware of all the sins she was
committing, Denise was determined that her past and present
would not be known to her husband. She will go to great
lengths to make sure that Pastor Tate does not find out
anything. That's until Tyrone decides that it's time that
the Pastor should know what his First Lady has been doing.
Now, when an unexpected situation comes up, will Denise tell
her husband everything or just pray that the storm will
pass?
Holy Seduction puts you in the mind of some
congregations that praises Jesus from 10:30 -12:30 (church
hours). Once the people hit the street, it's business as
usual, and we're not talking about God's business. This
novel will make you laugh, cry, shout, and praise God. While
reading this book, you can possibly familiarize yourself
with some of the characters. They may remind you of people
in your family, friends, or even in your church. There were
a few errors here and there, but not enough to criticize.
Holy Seduction was a great read.

Sunday Morning Secrets

Minister Jonathan
Pierce of King's Chapel has been a dedicated pastor of the
church for ten years. He's always been one to preach with
spirit and in truth. But underneath it all, he's hiding a
terrible secret and isn't sure if prayer and being steadfast
for the Lord will get him through. His beloved wife has a
drug addiction, and he has not told anyone about this
situation. But someone knows and is blackmailing him and
making him do some unspeakable things.
Now if you have belonged to a church for a while, you
know there's some nosy people in the church. Well, there's
nothing different about King's Chapel. Miss Alma Curtis, a
devoted church member, is the church's busybody. And if
there's anything that's going on in the church, she will
definitely find out about it. Little does everyone know, Ms.
Alma has a couple of skeletons in her closet, and if anyone
finds out, it will devastate her entire family.
In the first novel of author Shirlita K. McFarland, she
did a fantastic job. Sunday Morning
Secrets is not your "run of the mill" Christian
Fiction. It gives you drama, suspense, and some spiritually.
It does have it's share of church sermons, but it does not
go into a full blown preaching moment like some novels will
do. Sunday Morning Secrets
is a real page turner. My only disappointment is that
there's a large amount of typos and grammatical errors that
could have been caught. But overall, Shirlita K. McFarland
did a good job on the story itself.

Alisa is a young woman who is a "gold digger" and wears
this title like a crown. She runs through different guys
always looking for a man with money. Alisa just wants to
chill and continue this lifestyle until she meets Omar.
Alisa is instantly smitten with Omar as soon as she sees
his new car. But when she finds out that Omar really
wants a serious relationship, Alisa may not know how to
handle it. Omar is trying to encourage Alisa to want
more out of life, but will she be mature enough to want
it for herself?
1 Who Luvs U More is an interesting coming of
age tale by Andrea Clinton. Clinton gives us a first
person account of the confusing life of Alisa. You see
right away that Alisa is a woman that has a lot of
growing up to do. The constant battles that Omar goes
through with Alisa will have you feeling sorry for Omar.
This story would have flowed more easily if it wasn't
just Alisa's side of the story. At some point, it
appears that Alisa is just complaining and whining for
no reason which makes parts of this story tedious to
read. It would have been nice for readers to see Omar's
side of the story just to make this novel more
interesting and well rounded. The editing could have
been better also. 1 Who Luvs U More is still a
decent debut novel by Andrea Clinton.

lives. Lia is a young, slightly arrogant, successful
attorney for Virgin Records. Lia has always been
career driven and marriage is the furthest thing
from her mind. But when two different men enter her
life and tragedy strikes, Lia may gain a new
perspective. Rena has been in a relationship with
her boyfriend for four years. Rena has been longing
for a walk down the aisle, but now she wonders if
she's actually found "Mr. Right" after all. Jasmine
has always used her looks to get what she wants out
of men. Jasmine's life hits a curve ball when a good
man enters her life. Will she feel worthy enough to
accept his love? Dee Dee has a loving husband and
child. Her life seems perfect until her very wealthy
ex-boyfriend comes back into the picture. Will Dee
Dee be willing to sacrifice her stable home for an
old love?
That One Moment is a though-provoking
novel by Terese Lorae Smauldon. Smauldon brings a
good story about the very different lives of four
long-time friends. You will see the transformation
of these women as they go through various trials and
tribulations in their lives. Each woman had to do
some self-evaluation in order to find out what
direction their life was taking. This book is full
of realistic yet harsh life lessons that some women
will be able to relate to. That One Moment is
a wonderful book about the strength and complexities
of female friendships.
