Don't Get It Twisted
  4 out of 5 books

Isrie Walker and Deja Douglass have been through it all during their long friendship. They’ve seen the ups and downs of relationships. With new men in their lives, Isrie and Deja may have more than they bargained for in Don’t Get It Twisted by Eric Pete. Isrie has a history of terrible relationships. After dumping a man she met on a dating show, Isrie has given up on finding a good man. When she literally runs into businessman Michael Thomas' BMW, he seems to be the man she’s been looking for. Isrie gets suspicious when he doesn’t show up for dates and is unavailable for days at a time. Deja is a photographer who has issues with her weight. Things start to heat up when a sexy model name Ivan is interested in her. Deja thinks Ivan is too good to be true and she’s suspicious of Ivan’s model and former lover Sophia.

Don’t Get It Twisted by Eric Pete is about deception and delusions. Pete does an excellent job of storytelling from a woman’s point of view. This novel is full of emotion and drama. You’ll wonder if Deja’s new man Ivan will be her prince charming or become Ivan the Terrible. You will feel Isrie’s emotional rollercoaster as she deals with Michael’s unexplained absences. Don’t Get It Twisted shows how things aren’t always what they seem. Eric Pete shows the great lengths one may go through in trying to deceive someone in the dating game. Don’t Get It Twisted is another great read by Eric Pete.

Xenia Ruiz
Choose Me
5 out of 5 books

In Choose Me, Eva Clemente has survived a failed marriage and raised two sons on her own. With her sons away at college, she is not searching for Mr. Right but for a righteous man of God. Eva became celibate 5 years ago to refocus on herself and to prepare for what God wants her to do. Eva was about to give up hope on finding a good Christian man until she meets Adam Black. Adam has a strong Christian faith until he comes down with a serious illness. He’s found something wonderful in Eva but can Adam be in a celibate relationship?

Choose Me is a moving debut novel by Xenia Ruiz. One of the things that makes this novel shine is the diverse background of the two main characters. Eva is Afro-Latino and Adam is African-American but it is not the main focus of this story. Ruiz showed great vision by showing how difficult choosing celibacy can be for someone who was once a sexually active adult. Choose Me is not a quick read, but that’s what good about this novel. This story is told in a gradual, unhurried fashion that gives you time to appreciate the deep love that develops between Eva and Adam. Choose Me is beautiful and poetic, and Xenia Ruiz has the knack for telling a refreshing, emotional story that will hopefully be the start to a long career.

Earl Sewell
The Flip Side of Money
  3.5 out of 5 books

Tabetha Murphy was a college student with a bright future and a boyfriend named Marlon. Their world came crashing down when Tabetha got pregnant. They both dropped out of college and got married. Everything is fine until Marlon doesn’t want to be a father or husband anymore. He leaves Tabetha to raise their son Rick on her own. Tabetha is now a successful career woman with a wonderful husband name Gilbert. Gilbert treats Tabetha better than Marlon ever could. Although Gilbert loves Rick as his own, he wants his own child with Tabetha. Tabetha doesn’t want to stop her career and have another baby considering Rick will be heading off to college in a few years. Gilbert doesn’t understand this, but he still wants to save their marriage. To make matters worse, a now wealthy Marlon is back in the picture and so is Gilbert’s shiftless sister Veronica. Marlon wants Tabetha and Rick back, but he also has some ulterior motives.

The Flip Side of Money is another wonderful novel by Earl Sewell. What I most liked about this storyline was the way Marlon came back into the picture causing confusion right in the middle of Tabetha and Gilbert’s failing marriage. Gilbert’s sister Veronica also threw in a good dose of drama. The Flip Side of Money shows that the grass is not always greener on the other side. With this novel, Earl Sewell continues to bring realistic storylines and engaging characters.

The Hamptons
  3.5 out of 5 books

Joelle Sinclair is finally free. She just divorced her cheating, drug-addict husband and is about to embark on a new career. Joelle leaves New York City and moves into her sister’s beachfront home in the Hamptons. She takes a management position at the prestigious Kenneth Oberlin Gallery. Joelle is certainly not thinking about a man at this time until she meets sexy Jabari Mitchell. Jabari is a partner at a successful law firm. He seems to be the perfect eligible bachelor to sweep Joelle off her feet. Joelle may make a mistake in trusting Jabari...a mistake that could be life-threatening.

The Hamptons by Linda Dominique Grosvenor is a delightful, fast paced read. Grosvenor expertly gives an insider’s view of the affluent lifestyle of the Hamptons. I felt like I was literally vacationing at the Hamptons myself. I also like the way this author incorporated the art gallery into the story. The moral of this story is if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. The Hamptons has enough drama and seduction to make this a light and fun read.

(A Spotlight On Writers Who Deserve Their Shine Too!)

Torrian Ferguson
Swingers
  5 out of 5 books

How far would you go to satisfy a sexual fantasy? How do you know when you’ve crossed the line? This is the dilemma that Greg & Rena Robbins face in Swingers by Torrian Ferguson. After years of philandering, Greg decides to go to couples counseling with Rena in order to save their marriage. But will it be enough? Rena has had it with Greg’s cheating ways and longs to get the sexual fulfillment she craves. When she and Greg enter the underground world of swingers, they both get to live out their wildest sexual fantasies. Their fantasies may turn into a nightmare if their professional colleagues find out what goes on behind their bedroom door. Are they willing to risk it all?

Swingers is a spicy, erotic, novel by Torrian Ferguson. What I liked about this novel is that from the title and the very first sentence you know exactly what this book is going to be about. Ferguson gets to the meat of the story right away and doesn’t fool around with needless dialogue or pointless sub-plots. There is also a valuable lesson to this story: You have to know the rules in order to play the game. The jaw-dropping scenes were so captivating, it was almost like you were watching a movie. This story is so fast paced that I literally could not stop reading until the very end. Although the topic in Swingers was risqué, you will be totally submerged into this story. Torrian Ferguson proves with this debut novel that he is the new voice of erotica. Hopefully, this is just the start of a long career for this author.

Tatu
Love Mosaics: Indigo Blue
  4 out of 5 books

Indigo is a single mother who wants no more drama from men. Since her son’s father became incarcerated, Indigo has been making a way for herself and her son. But when her friend Kenya sets her up with Kofi, she’s not so sure he’s the real thing. Kofi has had his share of bad relationships and doesn’t let any woman get close to him. He hopes that Indigo has the key to unlock his heart. Just when things start to heat up between them, Indigo’s ex comes home from jail. Kenya is also becoming less trustworthy as a friend.

Love Mosaics Indigo Blue is an ambitious debut novel by a trio of authors (2 female, 1 male) that make up Tatu. I loved the drama and the quiet sensuality between Kofi and Indigo. Indigo Blue is a grand start to the Love Mosaics series. The next book in the series is titled Love Mosaics: Reflections by Tatu and is slated to be released this winter.

Michael Baisden
God's Gift To Women
  5 out of 5 books

Julian Payne is a struggling Chicago radio personality on a small AM station. He gets his big break when he becomes a late night talk show host in Houston. During his last night in Chicago, Julian meets sexy Olivia Brown for a one night rendezvous. Olivia is down for whatever, no strings attached. Julian quickly becomes very popular in Houston and pursues Dr. Terri Ross. Things get complicated when Olivia suddenly reappears in Julian’s life. Constant phone calls and repeated appearances outside the radio station, Julian quickly finds out that Olivia is not the stable woman he thought she was.

God’s Gift to Women is Michael Baisden’s best novel. Olivia was truly the one night stand from hell. This book came out back in 2002, and it showed the growth and maturity of his writing with this novel. I know that Michael Baisden has a radio show of his own now, but please, please, please give us another novel! Your fans are patiently waiting.

Michelle Larks
Crisis Mode
  4 out of 5 books

Crisis Mode by Michelle Larks is a collection of four short stories that feature women who face different obstacles in their lives. What’s A Woman To Do is about Sharita Atkins, a young single mother trying to make a better life for herself and her children. An unexpected pregnancy throws a monkey wrench in her plans and she’s not sure if she wants to have another baby. Family Secrets is about Jeanine Meyers, a lady who is trying to recover from being in an abusive marriage. She also has to come to terms with what her imminent ex-husband did to their son. Letting Go is about Desiree Cooper, who is about to get married to her fiancé Andre. Things turn sour when Desiree finds an open condom wrapper and another woman’s telephone number in his tuxedo pocket. Family Meetings is about Marsha Douglas dealing with the aftermath of her mother’s stroke. She and her family also have to come to terms with their mother’s last wishes.

Crisis Mode is an excellent collection of stories that show the strength of women in the face of adversity. Michelle Larks created a variety of poignant stories and characters that makes this an enjoyable read for all to enjoy.
