Gideon is back with more trouble than ever. He just can't leave that bad Detroit job behind as The Lady of Detroit is out for revenge. She won't stop hunting Gideon until she has his head on a silver platter. El Matador and his wife are the assassins that are hot on Gideon's trail. They are the chosen ones that The Lady of Detroit has enlisted to take down Gideon. But will their own internal struggles stop them from completing the job? Gideon soon gets assistance from a beautiful assassin named Hawks to help him make out of Antigua alive. With unlikely ambushes and adversaries around every corner, Gideon will have to come up with every trick in the book to live another day.

Dying For Revenge is another thriller by Eric Jerome Dickey. Dickey once again takes readers into the high stakes and dangerous world of Gideon. Readers will be sucked in immediately from the very first page of the opening fight scene. There is plenty of heart-stopping action sequences that will keep you on your toes. There is a little bit of hedonistic sex but not as much as the previous novels. Dickey did an excellent job by keeping the focus of this story on Gideon and the assassins that are after him. This story wouldn't be complete without an interesting twist. Dying For Revenge is a true page-turner that will have fans wanting to see more of Gideon in the future.

Pecking Order

Ivan David is a young accountant that has a yearning for something more. After some brainstorming, Ivan decides to start his own business by promoting networking events for his rich clients that he works with. As his events become more successful, Ivan starts to make a name for himself and catches the eye of Lucina Gallo. Lucina is the queen of San Diego's nightlife, and no party is complete until she enters the building. She's a businesswoman that is looking for a new partner, and Ivan fits the bill. Ivan and Lucina quickly become partners and are soon the talk of the town due to their highly successful promotions business. Ivan is swept away into the world of glitz, glamour, beautiful women and celebrities. Things get a little complicated when Ivan develops personal feelings for Lucina. Lucina wants to keep everything on the business level, but will Ivan be able to wear her down?

Pecking Order is a wonderful novel by Omar Tyree. Tyree gives readers an in-depth example of how one can make their business dreams a reality with careful planning. You see how Ivan goes from being a successful accountant to being the top person for celebrities and industry promotions. Readers will see the gradual progression of Ivan as he builds his business, which is what makes this novel more realistic. You will also see how Ivan's popularity becomes a gift and a curse when it comes to women. Tyree did a good job in creating Ivan's character because you really want to see him make it to the top. This story is also full of all of the trappings of the affluent such as private jets and multi-million dollar business deals. There's not a lot of drama in this story, but that's what makes this story standout. Pecking Order is an entertaining contemporary fiction novel that will definitely satisfy Omar Tyree's legion of fans.

Dr. Catherine Stewart is a well renowned psychologist and author of several children's stories. She comes from a very influential family, but that is not enough to keep her from being stalked. When she is invited to go to New Mexico to speak, Catherine jumps at the chance to stay at a friend's cabin where she can just relax and have some "me" time. She never expected company. Like Grayson, an ex-FBI agent with his own investigation company, is part Native American, part African American, and all gorgeous male. When he decides to go up to the cabin he owns with his cousin to get away from his match-making mother, he never imagined there would be anyone there...especially a gorgeous someone pointing a gun at him.

Until There Was You is a wonderful love story. It has all the elements of a traditional romance with the added bonus of suspense. Mrs. Ray does an excellent job of weaving the two together. The family aspect is also a very integral part of the story. Until There Was You is a re-release that links the Taggart & Falcon families with the Grayson's. All of these families are the epitome of what a close knit family is like. Until There Was You is a wonderful introduction to the Grayson series and to Mrs. Ray's writing if you have not had the pleasure of reading any of her works.

Angela Rivers is an investigative reporter that seems to have it all. She has a successful career and is married to her congressman husband Will. Angela's career continues to reach new heights as she becomes the host of her own controversial talk show. Regina's cousin Jesse is a marathon coach who is dealing with the recent breakup of his marriage with his wife Joann. Jesse isn't thinking about another relationship either until he gets reacquainted with Angela.

Love, Lies, and Scandal is an electrifying read by Earl Sewell. Sewell brought a great story about damaging secrets and scandal. This story brought a new timely twist to very public political scandals. There are many strong main and secondary characters that make this novel an enjoyable read. The way Angela and Jesse's stories were tied in together was seamless and unexpected. Sewell also mixes in some uproariously funny dialogue that will have you literally laughing out loud. Love, Lies, and Scandal is a widely entertaining novel that is full of drama and humor. Earl Sewell has another sure winner on his hands.

Khela Halliday is a romance writer that doesn't believe in happily ever after. Khela has been burned by love a few times, so now she is doubting the validity of what she does. She can write about love, but she doesn't believe in it. Carter Radcliff has had to deal with being gorgeous his whole life, and being used because of it. He just wants someone to look past his outer beauty and to the person he is inside. For three years, Carter has been fixing things in Khela's apartment. When he gets a request from Khela to come to her apartment with his toolbox and a tux, Carter is a little confused. Khela needs a date for an awards weekend she has to attend, and Carter just happens to be drop dead gorgeous. Even though she thinks he is a handyman, Carter and his good looks will serve the purpose she needs with no strings attached. Right?

Mr. Fix-It is a great book by Crystal Hubbard. Hubbard does a wonderful job with the characters in this book. The characters were developed perfectly for their roles. The interracial aspect also fits right in with the story. The secondary characters added that 'just right' aspect also. Every character made the story that much better. I also loved the way the author had the man in the story unsure of himself. Usually it is the woman who is the insecure one who needs time to deal with issues. It was a nice twist to the plot. Mr. Fix-It is most certainly a commendable read.

Angie Daniels
The Player's Proposal

Danica Dansforth is an ex-model who has been swindled by her accountant, lost her father, needs major repairs done on her beloved car. Now she has to go to the man who broke her heart for help. Handsome and eligible Jaden Beaumont has had his heart broken, sold his shop in California, and opened a new shop in his hometown.  He now has the opportunity to get answers from the woman who caused all the heartache. Danica and Jaden had a whirlwind affair that had them falling for each other hard and fast. When Danica overhears Jaden bragging about having a redhead eating out of his hands, she can't believe that she let herself get played. Not to be out done, Danica tells Jaden she has a fiancé and that the fling has been fun.

The Player's Proposal is a nice read by Angie Daniels. It flows really well throughout the entire story. It has an age old plot of misunderstanding that adds to the climax of whether or not Jaden and Danica will get back together. The main characters are also well developed along with the secondary characters that contribute to the overall likeability of the story.

Derrick Brandt has been labeled the most ineligible bachelor in Philadelphia. In spite of his good looks, his fame, and his fortune, Derrick finds himself at Love Unlimited, a matchmaking service, to find a woman. After entering Love Unlimited, Derrick has found his ideal mate, even though Noelle has a few things to say about his choice. When Noelle Brown, owner of Love Unlimited, meets Derrick for the first time, she has no problem figuring out how he was bestowed his title. Noelle has several colorful adjectives that she could use to describe Derrick, but none are very flattering. The one thing that is keeping her from kicking Derrick out of her office is that she needs him as much as he needs her.

Seducing the Matchmaker is a very good book. The chemistry between the main characters is excellent. You find yourself routing for them to be together even with Derrick being Derrick. There is also a humorous element to the story that is very refreshing. There aren't many romances that keep you laughing, but Elaine Overton does a great job of meshing the romantic and humorous elements together.

Love T.K.O.

South African born Dr. Yasmin Ohaji is a gorgeous psychologist who doesn't take any mess from anybody. So when a blind date just sits by and lets a group of immature wannabe thugs disrespect her, Yasmin takes matters into her own hands. Before she could give those guys a piece of her mind, drop dead gorgeous and multi-racial Rashawn "The Glove" Bishop comes to the rescue. Yasmin learns quickly that that is not the only time Rashawn would be there for her. Even though Rashawn is a boxer who is not from her "world," they hit it off immediately. It doesn't matter how different their backgrounds are, they know they are made for each other and can get through anything together. That is until Rashawn is faced with a tough decision that could test how strong their love is.

Love T.K.O. is a good romance novel by Pamela Yaye. The main male character is your classic romantic male, and the female main character is swept off her feet by him. The overall flow of the story was good. There were a few instances where I think the story lagged, but the author did a good job of recovering with something to pique your interest that caused you to want to know how that particular plot would play out. Overall, Love T.K.O. was a good book.

Not His Type is an excellent book. Canton does a great job with making characters believable and relatable. The secondary characters help make this story. Canton also does a wonderful job with integrating a topic that is very real in our society. A Preacher's Passion

Passion Perkins is ready to end her multiple years of celibacy, but she's not willing to indulge until she's married. She has had her fair share of men that just didn't measure up to her standards, until Lavon Chapman stepped onto the scene. He was charming, mysterious, and a Christian. Passion is now determined to become Mrs. Lavon Chapman and to end her years of celibacy. There's only one thing standing in her way, and it's someone she has the upmost respect for, but there's some serious scandal in the mix. Passion decides to take fate into her own hands and expose some intimate details that could shake her Christian community to the core. Is she willing to let the cat out of the bag or will she remain silent?

Pastor Carla Lee of Kingdom Citizens' Christian Center was an anointed woman of God. She was married to Rev Stanley Lee and they co-pastored KCCC together. She thought her life had finally came into full circle and everything was going exactly as planned. As much as she loved Stanley, she felt there was something missing in her marriage and that was intimacy. She missed her private moments with her husband and how he used to make her feel. Now it was like their intimate moments were scheduled and normally didn't last over 5 minutes. Carla felt that this was a hindrance in her marriage, but Stanley didn't think anything of it and always dismissed her feelings. Soon she would find "someone" to fulfill her needs, and his name was not Stanley Lee. Carla will have to make a decision about her marriage. Will she continue the route she's going, or will she let loose and become the passionate person she has always knew she was.

Lutishia Lovely has done it again. In A Preacher's Passion, there are some points where you think you know where the story's going, but if you continue to read, you will quickly find out how wrong you are. She gives such detail to each character and how each person in the book intertwines with the characters. If you have read Sex in the Sanctuary and Love Like Hallelujah, you must read this one.  I hope you enjoy A Preacher's Passion as much as I did.

W.S. Burkett
Chasin' Satisfaction

Julian and Miko Stevens are a mix-matched couple.  Miko definitely wears the pants as she instructs Julian of each and every move to make while constantly belittling him.  Miko is successful and thrives on status and kinky sex with strangers in mundane places.  Julian is the only African-American that works at his architecture firm and dreams of gaining the position of partner.

Julian is a weak, yet smart man that can't seem to figure out what he keeps doing wrong.  Unable to please his wife or his bosses, he wins an ostentatious contest and has hope that this will be his big break.  Miko's old boyfriend, Lamont Bainbridge, makes a surprise appearance with devious thoughts on his mind.  Another blow to Julian's depleted self-esteem as he watches the suave Lamont put every effort forth to outshine Julian and win Miko's affection again.

Chasing Satisfaction tells the story of a young man that suffers abuse continuously.  This novel is pretty uneventful, there are numerous editing problems, and the characters are lackluster.  The plot had a bit of erotica potential and the author is able to incorporate a murder scene that completes a grand save.   In future projects, Burkett needs to focus more on the structure of the story to establish an interesting theme.

Lisa Lennox brings us up to par with Julacia 'Laci' Johnson only six weeks after her involuntary, horrific experience of being strung out on crack cocaine.   She and her savior, Darryl 'Dink' Highsmith have enrolled in college in an effort to escape their drug-infested past.  Laci is still struggling with her demons while finding herself thrust into an empowering venture in an attempt to regain her self-esteem and further her education.   The college life proves to be a challenge as Laci must face her fear of interaction with her peers as well as learning to trust people again.  The pain she endured because of jealous people haunts her as she muses what she could have did differently or why they hated her so much.

Dink has retired from ‘the game' and passed the baton to his young protégé, Smurf, who's adjusting to his new position and the wealth that comes with it.  Smurf wants to change his mother's way of life, but has to deal with the realization that the more things change, the more they remain the same.  Tonette, Shaunna, and Monique are all still in the same clique.  Monique yearns for a different way of life and wants to break the tie that binds her to Tonette and her evilness.

Crack Head II is a sequel that is a questionable follow-up.  The author does indeed answer the few questions that the reader may have had from the first read, but six weeks is hardly long enough to truly make a difference in a sequel.  There is no definitive growth in the key characters, and the secondary characters proved to be more interesting.   The storyline had potential, but the author fails in delivery.  Great editing job though considering this is the first TCP publication that I've ever read and found not one error!

However, Mike has become too stagnate in his position in life for her.  Their relationship has become a battleground as she constantly finds fault with him, and he struggles with trying to please her.

Ron, Mike's best friend, is a sexy, successful ladies man that meets Monica Williams, a gorgeous law intern.  Despite his obvious infatuation with her, Ron refuses to acknowledge the depth of his love for her and has to deal with the loss of a promising relationship because of his fear of commitment.

Dee, their third cohort, is an around the way guy that loves the ladies, loves life, and is down for the get down.  The three friends have a lot of fun in the midst of their own personal crises and remain true to their bond to the very end.

Opposites Do Attract is a tale of friendship, love, and relationships in different aspects.  The theme describes the different levels of evolving relationships and their emotional ups and downs.  The characters were all relatable and the storyline had promise.  The plot was just mediocre and there was really nothing extraordinary about this story.

Arkadian Frost (simply known as "Kay") had a good heart and was a bona fide leader who helped those that were less fortunate and took care of his family. But Kay's career choice as a bank robber leads him to the pen. When a fool-proof plan with his close-knit friends go wrong, it leaves one of his best friends dead. Kay takes the fall for all his friends and does his time alone, leaving his family and child in the outside world. Kay has just been released from prison. With a heavy mind, Kay has a lot of decisions to make. With his friends making new moves, will he join them, or he will he do the right thing and go on the straight and narrow?

Mike ("Go-Go") was Kay's other best friend. He is the man when Kay is released from prison. He owns various businesses and money is at his disposal thanks to his new business in the drug trade. Mike puts Kay on and everything is lovely, or so it seems. Mike has some inner demons within himself, and when the truth comes out, all hell breaks loose. Mike is the boss, and those who don't obey will see his wrath, but will that include his best friends too?

Tank was the class clown who had jokes, but he also had another side that no one wants to see. He could go from jokes to deadly in ten seconds flat.

Apache was the ride-or die of the crew who loved guns and set out to complete a job until the end, even if it included putting his own life on the line for his boys. Apache refused to go to jail, and no was a match for that...including the police.

Gee (a.k.a. "The Dread") was a Jamaican who was smooth from his walk to his talk. He had inside connections that benefitted the close-knit clique. From money to drug connections in several states, if someone needed to disappear at a drop of a hat, it could be done.

Dee was the mysterious person out of the crew. He was quiet and only associated with members of his crew. He was faithful to his woman and didn't partake in the regular drinking and smoking. But Dee knows a lot more than he leads on to, and this would serve to be his advantage in the long run.

Shu-Shu was Kay's neighbor and they grew up together. He knew from the back in the day that Shu-Shu had a thing for him, but Kay had a woman and child. But since his release, Kay sees Shu-Shu in a new light. She's an independent go-getter who waits for no man. Kay and Shu-Shu come up with a plan to become partners. But sometimes things are not that easy, and the end result could lead him back into prison or an early grave.

Against the Grain details the friendship and struggle of six friends. Loyalty and trust is something you earn. Everyone can't be the leader, and when trust is broken, all hell can break loose. I really enjoyed this book since it was gritty and real at the same time. It showed how Kay had an inner struggle within himself between his family and friends. Someone who says they are your friend may not be, and when the chips fall, they will throw you to the wolves to save themselves. I enjoyed how Freeze painted the picture and made you understand the true meaning of "Trust No One But Yourself."

He came from wealthy parents, he achieved good grades, and he was involved in the church and the community. Jabez lived his life to make his parents proud. But in a short period of time, Jabez lost both of his parents. Feeling alone in the world, who would Jabez turn too?

Dionysus was used to getting what she wanted. She was used to men drooling all over her and women being jealous. Dionysus was only concerned with one thing ...dollar signs. But her world goes into a whirlwind when she becomes torn between two friends. Will Dionysus finally have a conscience?

Abel was very successful in the real estate business and in everything he did, including women, rocking the latest fashions, and at the same time maintaining good grades while he worked on his masters degree. Abel also maintained an relationship with God and his lifestyle begins to play a tug of war on his faith. What decision will Abel choose?

Solomon didn't have things so easy. He was always in competition with Abel. If Abel went to a private school, Solomon did too. If Abel bought a new car, Solomon did even though he couldn't really afford it. Solomon went as far as to date the same women as Abel. But trying to juggle that lifestyle becomes too much to handle. His house was foreclosed on, forcing him to move back home with his mother to maintain his lifestyle. But Solomon is plotting the sweetest revenge to get on top.

Torah was used to playing second fiddle to her cousin Dionysus. She was the only family member who was close to Dionysus because everyone else was intimidated or felt threatened and stayed away. After feeling betrayed and hurt by her cousin, Torah comes up with a brilliant plan to teach her cousin a lesson.

Tyse had an image to uphold. He was always juggling women, made sure he never wore the same outfit twice, and always had money to floss with even if it meant taking someone's identity. But when Tyse goes to far, he may have an early demise.

FLOSS was a good book by Monica Marie Jones. It showed the inside world of what people do to uphold a certain image. I enjoyed how the author broke up each chapter by character. By doing this, it really helped you focus on each character separately. Monica Marie Jones really painted the scene and shows that FLOSS may not always be a good thing.

I thoroughly enjoyed Love Lost Da Game by Reginald Rose. I didn't even realize that I was on page 100 in 30 minutes! It's just a really easy story to read with humor sprinkled all the way through it. As serious as the story is, the message of love, loyalty and friendship is abundant.  There is no way of denying how loyal each of them are to one another. Mr. Rose told the story as if it was something that was really happening. For a new author, I was impressed that all of his characters were developed, the theme wasn't repetitive, and there was actually a plot and a story.

Hot Girl tells the story of a foster child named Kate who is currently residing in the Johnson household. Kate has always felt alone and felt a need to fit in by drinking and gangbanging. She transforms her ways and starts to make strides in her schoolwork thanks to her newest and best friend Felicia. It's summertime, and Felicia is away on a trip in South Africa and Kate is still lonely in Brooklyn.

At a basketball game where Kate is there rooting her boo Charles, she meets Naleejah, a fly girl who she's quickly impressed by. Kate immediately finds herself making bad decisions by trying to fit in, risking everything to hang out with the Hot Girl.

Hot Girl, written by Dream Jordan, is an easy and interesting read where the main character isn't sought after or admired. The contrast of the main character and the supporting character, though not direct, were good depictions for teens willing to trade in their good girl status to be known as the Hot Girl. Is the person you are closest to a reflection of you? Or are you avoiding them and you all together?
Tianna, Darrell and Tracy are all best friends running from their own reflection. With baggage from her childhood, Tianna goes through the same hurt and pain every year because she refuses to realize the person that she has become and to accept her life for what it is.

Darrell is in a no-win situation with his girlfriend of the past three years. He knows that it's time to go, but he keeps trying to see if things will change. When they don't change, does Darrell face what he has always known, or does he run and just ignores it all?

Tracy has her own world that no one knows exists. She's definitely not looking in the mirror at her reflection since she's afraid of what will stare back at her. When all of their lives come crashing down, they all have to reflect on who they really are, what has gotten them to that point, and then accept it and move on.

Reflections was a quick and easy read by Vermel Kinmon. The characters were down to earth and kind of believable. There were some twists and turns that you didn't see coming, which made the story a bit more interesting. I think Ms. Kinmon has a wonderful talent. The story was pretty short but to the point. After reading Reflections, I certainly look forward to reading anything else that the author puts out in the future.
