Kennedi Mason thinks that she has the perfect marriage with her husband Blake. After years of hoping and dreaming about this special moment, Kennedi can't wait to share the good news with her husband...news that will change their lives for the better. But when Blake gets home, he has some news of his own that will turn Kennedi's world into a tailspin.  The aftermath of Kennedi and Mason's announcements will set forth a series of events where lies and betrayal are uncovered. Kennedi will soon find out that perception is not reality.

One in a Million is an intriguing novella by Kimberla Lawson Roby. Roby hooks the reader in from the first page beginning with Kennedi's good news. As you start reading the first few pages, you will think that you know what Kennedi's news is until you get to the last few sentences at the end of the first chapter. The jaw-dropping twist comes so early in the story that readers will be flipping the pages trying to find out what's going to happen next. You will also see how Kennedi saw only what she wanted to see in regards to her marriage. Fans of Roby's previous novels will see a small cameo appearance by the Rev. Curtis Black in this story, but this novella isn't about him. One in a Million is dramatic and insightful. Kimberla Lawson Roby once again brought a story that her legion of fans will enjoy.

Connie is not interested in meeting Charlotte at all because she has bitter memories of what really happened when they were abandoned by their mother. Connie has her own issues with an unplanned pregnancy and an unclear relationship with her boyfriend John King.

You Gotta Sin To Get Saved is an awe-inspiring conclusion to One Day I Saw A Black King and Don't Want No Sugar by J.D. Mason. Mason gives readers the background of Charlotte and how her actions impacted Reesy and Connie's lives as adults. You will see how Charlotte continues her selfish actions which also make her other daughter Cammy's life difficult as well. Readers will also see the emotional turmoil in Connie's relationship with John and in Reesy's marriage. Mason did an excellent job of telling Charlotte's story in a series of flashbacks without confusing the reader. You Gotta Sin To Get Saved is emotionally charged and insightful. J.D. Mason once again brought a novel that does not disappoint.

In Leslie Esdaile's latest romance Better Than, she shows you that a good man loves you for what's on the inside.  This story begins with the newly divorced Deborah Lee Jackson beginning a new year.  Besides being newly divorced, Deborah is not getting any fulfillment out of her job and she is slightly overweight.  Determining not to wallow in self pity, Deborah decides to make some New Year's resolutions that will help her improve her mind, body, and her life.  Since she always wanted to go back to college and take more classes, she signs up for some at the local university.  It is in her art class that she meets her handsome instructor Jason Hastings, a man who is so devoted to his career that he's sworn off women in order to concentrate on it more.  Jason only took the art instructor job to help out his friend and vows not to let this class ruin his career.  Although they're not looking for love, it seems to eventually find them and bring them together.  Will their new found love be able to stand up to the problems that the outside world may bring?

I LOVED this book!  It showed the true battle that some full-figured women struggle with when it comes to love and life.  Although Deborah is a full-figured woman, I truly loved this story because Deborah's story could be anyone's story, regardless of their size.  Ms. Esdaile's story lets women know that there are some good men still out there. And if those men truly love you, they won't care about how you look on the outside, but just what's in your heart.  The only thing that man wants to do is heal a broken-hearted woman.  So if you love a good romance story that has a touch of drama, then this is the story for you.  I highly recommend Better Than. And who knows, it might inspire you to make a life change to better your mind and body.  At least, that's what it did for me.

Victoria Christopher Murray
Too Little, Too Late

Victoria Christopher Murray has come again with a new and improved Jasmine!  Or has she really improved?  Jasmine and Hosea have returned with a stronger love complete with baby Jacqueline and the infamous dry witted Mae Frances.  This power couple has really grown in their ministry although Jasmine is still battling the old man as her past lies continue to haunt her.  Hosea has accepted Jacqueline as his very own flesh and blood child while his love for Jasmine grows stronger each day as he witnesses the changes in her growth as a Christian.

Upon the renewing of their vows, the family has to temporarily move to California and it's stirring up mayhem in Jasmine's equilibrium with the close proximity to Brian Lewis, Jacqueline's biological father.  In the midst of this storm, Jasmine faces one of her toughest trials, an adversary that is even more devious than she was in her past!  In his quest to assure Jasmine of his love and loyalty to her and their wedding vows, Hosea is also battling the demons of the flesh as passionate memories of his past relationship with his old flame, Natasia Redding.

Too Little Too Late is a must read for an update of the latest drama revolving around the legendary Jasmine Larson Bush!  I thoroughly enjoyed the unveiling of Jasmine as well as the insight of Hosea as being a full blooded man as well as a man of GOD!   She challenges you with the thin lines between love and hate, lies by omission or commission. Ms. Murray also shows you the ease with which one may get caught up in evading small pieces of information that quickly builds until there is a definitive wall blocking what was once open and honest communication in a relationship.   Ms. Murray gives Christian Lit an enlightening as well as inspirational voice that is not intimidating, restricted, or too monotonous.  The scenes are intense and have you anticipating each page as each layer of the characters are revealed.  The characters are easy to relate to, the situations are most definitely believable, and the reactions are real which in my opinion classifies this as an excellent read!!!  Great job Ms. Murray!

The four friends are back and I'm saying four very loosely being that Dom and Alize are still estranged because of Dom's betrayal. They have moved forward, trying to shed their past mistakes and issues and gravitate to being new and improved...if that's possible.

Alize accepts an intern position at one of the nation's most prestigious companies knowing that Cameron works there and is in the process of planning a wedding to another woman. Cristal is kicking it jiggy style with Mohammed, the handyman that gives her heart palpitations, while the boss' wife decides to take her on as a protege.

Moet is battling her multi-platinum rap star baby daddy for custody of their love child while learning to trust and let her guard down with a true Christian man that adores her. Dom is battling low self esteem as well the demons of her drug addiction as she attempts to make a decent living for her daughter. She accepts her true worth as she learns to love herself as well as others.

Show and Tell is an outstanding read that brings the readers up to date with a graceful entrance to the end of Live and Learn. The plot thickens as each young lady struggles with the trials as they increase with their growth in becoming women, mothers, lovers, and friends. The dialogue is credible, the struggles are emotional and empowering, and the storyline is memorable and entertaining. Niobia Bryant has enthralled her readers with another fast paced poignant tale of love...whether it is the love of two lovers, true friends, or the love of a mother for her child.

Another best seller Ms. Bryant, amazing job!

Whiskey Road

Jimi Anne Hamilton has enjoyed the danger and excitement that her being the member of the paparazzi brings. But after too many risky run-ins with celebrities, Jimi decides that enough is enough. Jimi hops on her motorcycle for a cross-country trip from California to New York. Jimi runs into difficulties when her motorcycle and camera equipment is stolen. Jimi is only left with a bag of money she took from her attacker and a few clothes. She decides to heal her wounds in a small New York town where she meets Caleb Atwood. Caleb is a white contractor who is dealing with his own personal issues when he meets the mysterious Jimi. Jimi thinks that although their races are different, Caleb is just as much as an outsider as she is.

Whiskey Road is an engrossing novel by Karen Siplin. Siplin shows readers how two characters who seem to be total opposites at first have a lot in common with each other. Jimi is an African-American woman celebrity photographer from California, Caleb is a contractor in a small town in New York, and both of them are outsiders in their own little worlds. Siplin does a masterful job of painting a vivid picture of Caleb's hometown that readers will be able to picture every thing that is taking place. This is not a typical romantic love story because you really don't know what exactly the future holds for Caleb and Jimi. Whiskey Road is a fascinating tale of how love can be found in unexpected places.

Jason Poole seizes his readers' undivided attention as he reveals an extraordinary scenario in the grimy lives of the people that personify the oldest profession known to man. He shows us the world of pimps, prostitutes, and the foulness that encamps amidst their daily activities and where they lay their heads. He introduces us to an unforgettable duo that pledge their allegiance to each other and ride like the villainous Bonnie and Clyde into the sunset fearlessly seeking their destiny.

Poole launches the storyline with a frantic Babyface rushing into the hospital looking for his lady Victoria, who's been assaulted and left for dead. He finds her in a coma in ICU fighting for her life without a clue to who, what, when, or most importantly, why. Babyface holds vigil at her bedside and is presented with her diary which gives a vivid and enlightening account of her tumultuous life. This gives him even more respect for her swagger, and makes him more determined to encourage her on to recovery. Babyface is Victoria's fiancé as well as her pimp.  As he turns each page of her diary, each new revelation intensifies his thirst for vengeance. Victoria's life seems to have been destined for misery, as her diary reveals her witnessing the horrifying death of both of her parents. Being rejected by family members, she finds a blessing in her placement at the House of Love group home. There she finds her niche among two other orphans that will play a major part in her life in the past and present.

Victoria's Secret is a spellbinding novel that delivers an explicit yet realistic look at the people that live in the realms of the oldest trade in history. Jason Poole taps into all aspects of this taboo lifestyle. He begins with the initial reasoning surrounding the choices that these ladies make when they claim the role of a prostitute, hoe, or lady of the night. The women sleep with any and all to surrender their hard earnings to their pimp! Victoria's Secret is swarming with jealous individuals with cold, conniving hearts, lack of conscience, scheming, competitive, and murderous plots and plans...all for the sake of being that 'bottom bitch.' Pimps up, Hoes down! Great storyline Jason, major props to you!

Both of their daughters are now adults and her husband was always gone, so Katherine wanted to have some fun of her own. When she finds out what her husband is really up to, Katherine decides to bring her own secrets to light.

Pulpit Confessions by Péron F. Long was quite a page turner. I really enjoyed reading this book. There were times when the story seemed a little predictable. But just when you thought something was going to happen, Long would toss a twist in to throw you completely off. The author did an excellent job with the plot line, but there were too many grammatical errors for my liking. Overall, Pulpit Confessions was a good read.

Jarrod can't accept Keith's rejection and it leads him down a dark and sinister path that can destroy the lives of everyone involved.

You, Me, and He is an electrifying debut novel by Brooke Green. Green brought a unique twist to the typical down-low brother story. The character development is one of the things that really makes this story stand out. Donna was a character that you'll have a love/hate relationship with. You'll sympathize with her predicament in this story but she also had some gold-digging ways. Readers will root for Keith as he tries to move forward with his life with Donna. Jarrod proves that he's the jilted lover from hell. This story is full of heart-stopping drama and shocking twists that will have you flipping the pages. Shadows of The Heart is a riveting novel by Lord'Williams. Williams takes the reader into the world of love and destruction. The Domino Series:
Sherry Tate

You cannot take something out on someone else what has happened to you. Sherry Tate was a virgin at the age of 21. Never in her wildest dreams would she have thought she would contract HIV from her very first sexual encounter.  Not realizing what is wrong with her fiancé Daniel, Sherry is scared for his life and that she will lose him to some sudden illness. When she finds out that Daniel is dying from AIDS, Sherry goes on an emotional rollercoaster.  Getting her self-esteem back and getting back in the dating game, Sherry decides she's going to take other people's fate into her hands like Daniel did to her.

I won't say that The Domino Series: Sherry Tate is a horrible story, but it just wasn't a very good one. It seems to be the same plot all the way around: Getting a disease you can't cope with, having unprotected sex with married men that don't seem to care about their families at home, blackmailing them for money, and then living off that money.

The Domino Series: Sherry Tate was not edited properly. There were so many inconsistencies that made it a disappointment while reading.  There either should be something special about the story that makes it unique or the story should be told in a better way that makes it stand out from other books with similar storylines. The Domino Series: Sherry Tate really fell short of what it could have been in my opinion.

Everything is going according to plan until Monique and Tommy's paths cross due to the freak sessions between Damien and Nikki. Amidst the tricking, money-making, and tail-shaking, a turf war unfolds and loyalties are tested as well as everyone's true gangsta demeanors. Who's riding and who's rolling over under the rapid force of gunfire and the rancid smell of death?

Marlon McCaulsky's debut novel The Pink Palace is an appealing read and gives a voice to some runaways and their reasoning. Although it read a bit like the average urban lit read, the plot's flow was pretty straight and the author's writing skills are commendable.  The Pink Palace is brimming with sex, power struggles, treachery, rape, and the tragedies that cause so many young ladies to give their souls to the devil in their attempt to run away from horrible situations at home.
