Casanegra: A Tennyson
Hardwick Mystery
|
Tennyson Hardwick
is a sexy actor and former gigolo that struggles to hang on
to his career in Hollywood. He is trying to be the son that
his former LAPD captain father always wanted him to be.
Tennyson has a lot more trouble than he bargained for when
he is a prime suspect in a female rapper’s murder. Tennyson
is in a race against time as he tries to find out who the
real killer is. But he will soon find out that finding out
the identity of the killer may put his own life in danger.
Casanegra is a
riveting novel by this interesting trio of writers. What
made this novel stand out is the unlikely protagonist
Tennyson Hardwick. Tennyson is a sexy actor with an unsavory
past who is trying to save his acting career and his life.
You will feel the raw emotion of this story when Tennyson
gets closer and closer to the truth. Readers will be
immediately drawn into the Hollywood landscape as this
mystery unfolds. There is drama, heart-pumping action,
police corruption and eroticism that make this a wonderfully
different kind of mystery novel. Casanegra is an exceptional
start to the Tennyson Hardwick series.

After the death of her boyfriend
Quadir, Gena is back with a whole new set of problems.
With Quadir’s money stuffed in the trunk of her car,
Gena is trying to keep a low profile while getting her
life together. She is still so heart broken that
she doesn’t think she can love anybody else until she
meets and falls in love with Jerrell Jackson.
Unbeknownst to Gena, Jerrell is Quadir’s arch enemy who
is seeking revenge. Jerrell will stop at nothing to get
back at Quadir’s crew, even if he has to go through Gena
first. If that wasn’t enough, a mysterious person is
following Gena all over the city. Quadir’s old
crew is having problems of their own when one of the
crew members turns into a snitch.
True To the Game II is a
wonderful sequel to True To the Game. Teri Woods
effortlessly continued the story of Gena. This story
picks up right where the first novel left off so it
doesn’t confuse the reader. Although this is a
great story, there are a few things that readers may
find a little perplexing. It’s hard to believe
that Gena would still be in the projects with Quadir’s
money lying around and that she wasn’t more suspicious
of Jerrell. There is a shocking ending that could
lead to a third installment, but Woods would have a lot
of explaining to do in order to pull it off properly.
True To the Game II is a fast-paced, exciting read
that will surely keep you on your toes.

Tess, Kim,
and Nikki are back with a whole new set of problems.
They are now in Aruba and are about to embark on a whole
new life now that their arch enemies are gone for good.
But their world may be turned upside down when Tess gets
a phone call from Vincent. The problem is that Vincent
knows too much and wants Tess to meet him. Tess has come
too far to let Vincent ruin a plan that she worked so
hard to execute. She will do anything to protect her
future…even if it means to get rid of Vincent for good.
Meanwhile, Kim and Nikki are becoming increasingly
concerned about Tess and where they fit into her plans.
They fear a double cross coming on but they won’t go
down without a fight.
Wicked
Ways is a satisfying sequel to Getting Hers
by Donna Hill. Hill masterfully continues this unique
story about revenge. Readers not only get to find out
what happened to Kim and Nikki but you get to learn
about a whole new side of Tess that wasn’t present in
the first book. Hill did a good job of giving us the
complete past history of Tess. By giving us this back
story, you really see how Tess’ past shaped her into the
woman that she became. There is also a shocking
revelation in this story that will catch some readers
off guard. Wicked Ways does well as a stand alone
novel but you are encouraged to read Getting Hers

Wicked Ways, Donna Hill proves that she is still on
top of her game.

will her plan work or will it blow up in her face?
Deliver Me
From Evil is a thrilling novel from Mary Monroe.
Monroe takes readers on a journey into the wild mind of
a woman taking desperate measures. The thing that really
pulls you into this novel is how abruptly this whole
story begins. One of the bizarre twists to this novel is
revealed in the first few pages which was unique. The
characters are rich and vivid as well. You’ll actually
sympathize with Christine when you see what lead her to
take such extreme measures. You will also wonder why
Jesse Ray couldn’t be more cognizant of his wife’s
needs. Monroe skillfully incorporated a good dose
of humor and sex into her classic trademark storytelling
style that makes this a true page-turner. Deliver Me

does not disappoint.

Getting Some Of Her Own

Susan Pettiford was a successful
interior designer in New York City. Susan finds out that
her aunt has passed away leaving her heir to her entire
estate including a house, car, and a sizeable bank
account. Under the terms of the will, in order for Susan
to claim the estate as her own, she must live in Woodmore
for one year. There are so many obstacles in Susan's way.
She just found out that she has to have surgery that will
change her outlook on life and she wonders if she will
ever have the family she wants. Susan has made a decision
that she'll never get involved with anyone because she
didn't want to get hurt…until she met Lucas Hamilton.
Lucas was a very successful architect in Woodmore, and was
not bad on the eyes. When the two of them meet, sparks
fly. Even though both are trying to deny the connection,
it's hard to do. Susan starts to have feelings for Lucas,
but because of her secret she tries to stay away from him
as much as possible.
Little does Susan know, Lucas has some secrets of his own.
Before Lucas was born, his mother Noreen was having an
affair with a man twice her senior. They were in love and
could not live without one another. The only thing that
was hindering them from being together was the fact that
Lucas' father Calvin Jackson was married. Lucas had a lot
of animosity against his dad, but he didn't know the
entire story of his parents' love affair. Because of his
parents, Lucas found it hard to be close to anyone until
he encountered Susan. Will the two overcome their
obstacles or will their secrets block them from being
together?
In Getting Some of Her Own,
Gwynne Forster did a good job with the storyline. I liked
how the author connected all of the characters together
and included some of the struggles that a number of women
encounter. The only thing I did not like about this book
was how Forster didn't include some main characters at the
end of the book. It also didn't give enough
explanation in regards to Calvin Jackson's other children.
Even though the story did lack a few small details,
Getting Some of Her Own was still a fairly good read.

dives readers in head first with this engrossing storyline.
This book grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go

a dark secret came to light.
Meanwhile, Daniel had it made. He was
in love with his mistress Lenora who had plans of her own.
Once Ruth and Daniel's divorce was finalized, Lenora thought
it was time for her to become the next Mrs. Wilcox and she
did....THE NEXT DAY!!! This information crushed Ruth and her

goes around comes around, and Daniel, your time is coming."
Daniel will soon learn that you reap what you sow, and
he will pay the ultimate price. Ruth will learn that God is

Michelle Larks did an outstanding job

make things more permanent in his life by trying to buy the

conflict head on. Sandy tries to find out more about the
neighborhood by having reluctant conversations with Barlowe
over the backyard fence. Sandy is hopeful about the new

Them is an

Simone and Pete Steel never in a
million years would have believed their sons whom they made
sure they instilled moral values in, would have turned out
they way they did. Losing their parents at such a
young age and not having any family members step up to take
them played the part in the hand they were dealt.
Zig and Butch Steel really don’t know the meaning of
selfishness. All thru this story they are dead set on
getting revenge against Melvin Baker for the murder of their
wonderful parents 25 years ago. They are so set on
revenge they miss all the things they were taught regarding
how to treat people as you would like to be treated.
Believing in their minds that they are handling things
fairly, they set out to destroy one man and wind up
destroying the lives of many people who have no idea what
the underlining problem really is.
I won’t say I didn’t like this book, but it seemed like too
much of the one thing and not enough of the other. I think
the whole CSI kind of thing was too much for me because it
all seemed like something off the show instead of something
fresh from the author’s mind. Whatever It Takes

of this story is that women need to respect themselves

Dawn Desiree
Sunshine & Rain
|
Dawn Desiree delivers a fast paced
drama filled debut novel featuring two orphaned young ladies
with collaborating names.
She introduces us to Sunshine, the lighter version of the
two, who still has an innocence about her despite the tragic
events that places her in the home of a seemingly harmless
foster mom. Cathy is young, jazzy, cool peeps and definitely
a rare jewel in the dismal system of child placement.
Rain is a street smart youth that has had to stand up and be
mother and father to two siblings due to her mother's
untimely death and her father's crack addiction. Upon their
father's accidental death, the siblings are temporarily
thrust into a filthy home until Rain's brother defends her
and commits murder thus causing the three to be separated.
Rain is transferred to Cathy's care and the story
begins.....
Ms. Desiree entertains her readers as she unveils the secret
life of Cathy as the girls blindly become entangled in a
dangerous scenario. She captures your attention and retains
it as the curiosity of how each domino will fall and she
further enchants you with the scene stealer, 'Brian-Briana',
who is definitely endearing.
Sunshine and Rain
is really an enjoyable read. However, it seems as though
there could have been more interaction shown between the
characters to strengthen the readers understanding of
certain scenes and feelings. You never fully connected with
the characters and their emotions due to lack of
development. This book was very entertaining and the
storyline was very original. But upon completion, you’re
still left questioning why some things happened. Sunshine
and Rain was very entertaining and filled with drama,
murder, and humor. I look forward to future work from this
author and am impressed with her debut novel. Dawn Desiree
has great potential for growth and success in the urban

The Aura of Love is a real thought
provoking tale by Kathy J. Marsh about a race of power
possessing beings called Auralites. They are called
Auralites, because of the color of their auras. Humans
are unaware of their existence, because all Auralites
live on an island not far from Charlotte, NC. In this
race of beings, there are two covens: The Blue coven and
the Purple coven. The mistrust and racism among the two
covens is the main focus of this story. Remy, a Purple
Auralite, is a dress maker who owns her own blooming
small business. One day, while in a book store picking
up the latest installment of her favorite series she
meets Jace, a Blue Auarlite. After talking to Jace for
awhile in the book store she realizes not only do they
click, but he’s one of her favorite authors. It’s
obvious throughout the book that the two have feelings
for each other, but Remy is very hesitant about acting
on her feelings because Jace is a Blue Auralite. In the
meantime, unbeknownst to the Auralites, someone is
telling a human reporter about their total history of
existence through a series of dreams. Just as Jace
and Remy come together as a couple, the Auralites
discover that someone is revealing their existence when
they see an article in a famous human magazine.
Unfortunately, they discover who the guilty party is and
who is revealing their existence. They must find the
reporter before their council of leaders find him and
try to put a stop to the stories. For if the council of
leaders discovers who the reporter is and the Auralite
who is telling him about their existence, they will put
them both to death.
This book was really a joy to read and have all the
makings of a series. Even though it started out kind of
slow, it quickly picked up and held my attention
hostage. The characters were enjoyable, because they
were given very realistic characteristics. I swear that
I have girlfriends who have the same attitude and
mannerisms as Remy’s. Also, Jace and his best friend
Darius reminded me of my brothers and some of my male
cousins. I must say that Ms. Marsh expertly weaved a
tale unlike any that I have ever read. Not only did the
book have touches of mystery and family drama, but it
dealt with current social and dating issues as well.
Sometimes, I couldn’t tell if I was reading fiction or
in the middle of a discussion about the different
attitudes of dating with some of my single friends. This
book will really make you think and become conscious
about your feelings when it comes to dating. If you
really like a good book that makes you think, then I
truly recommend Aura of Love. I really hope that
there will be a sequel in the future, because I would
love to read more about the Auralites.

Forever My Lady
|
Forever My Lady is a story of
perseverance, growth in mentality, and the coming of age
of a boy as he matures into a man.
The story is centralized around Dio Rodriguez and his
lover Jennifer. Dio gets a second chance at life at the
beginning of the story in a prison boot camp. Dio grew up
with an abusive, alcoholic mom, which was instrumental in
his becoming enveloped in the gang life. He encounters his
love interest on the mean streets as she has also run from
an abusive life with her family and has resorted to
prostitution with dreams of fame and fortune via her gift
as a singer. Their love and loyalty to each other is
strong but due to his destructive lifestyle, tragedy
strikes and the games really begin.
Forever My Lady paints a
sordid picture of young love with the dysfunctional
mentality and how despite Dio’s background, and the
numerous obstacles that he encounters on his journey, how
he’s able to overcome each and every trial. He becomes a
better person because of all that he has endured.
I commend Mr. Rivera for the completion of his debut
novel. Forever My Lady is full of subliminal
messages aimed to inspire as the tale unfolds of one
troubled youth in today’s cruel and uncaring society. I
liked Rivera’s consistency in the unveiling of his
characters and how he developed their personalities.
However, this story needed more spice. There wasn’t any
real excitement, just a narration of a story. All in all,
Forever My Lady is still a decent novel by Jeff
Rivera.
