Yancey Harrington Braxton is back, and she's trying to reclaim
her throne as music's top diva. But the road getting back to
the top is getting harder than she imagined. Yancey has been
touring in off Broadway plays across the country to keep up
with her lavish lifestyle. Yancey comes up with a plan to star
in her own reality show to become the celebrity that she once
was. But some long ago secrets that come to light may derail
her plans. Meanwhile, Yancey's mother Ava Middlebrooks is out
of prison and ready to make her own comeback. She doesn't care
whose toes that she needs to step on in order to do it---even
if it includes her own daughter. Ava and Yancey both have some
competition in the diva department when a hot new music
sensation named Madison B. steps on to the scene.
Mama Dearest is an entertaining novel by E. Lynn
Harris. Harris brought back the beloved characters of Yancey
and Ava. He also did a good job of introducing Madison in this
book. Ava's actions towards Yancey are so despicable in this
book that you'll forget that she's actually Yancey's
biological mother. The Yancey in this book is forced to be
extremely humble as she tries to revive her career. The
inclusion of Madison in this story provided a unique breath of
fresh air to this book. But the ending of the novel seemed
very rushed, vague, and thrown together, leaving you with more
questions that unfortunately will never be answered. Mama
Dearest is full of the all of the humor and drama that E.
Lynn Harris is known for.

through her own personal turmoil due to her step-father's
sexual abuse. Too scared to tell her mother or anyone else,
Jillian has been dealing with this for the past five years.
Adding to the confusion, Jillian's best friend Nikki is
infatuated with this boy named Marcus that just wants her for
sex. Jillian releases her anguish by writing in her journals,
hoping that one day she'll be strong enough to overcome this
nightmare.
A Deep Dark Secret is an outstanding novella by
Kimberla Lawson Roby. Roby really showed her strength as a
writer in presenting this topic in such a delicate way. You
will feel Jillian's emotional plight throughout this book.
There were also some shocking events surrounding Jillian's
best friend Nikki that will leave you speechless. This story
should open up dialogue between not only mothers and daughters
but for fathers and sons too about inappropriate touching
between adults and children. Roby also did an excellent job of
concluding this book in a realistic fashion. A Deep Dark

Dante Garret has taken
over his family business after the death of his father and
grandfather. A Bronx repairman, Dante runs into a ghetto vixen
that changes his professional and personal life. When he's
seduced by an older client named Ms. Thomas and then falls for
Stacy, the niece of another client, the drama begins. But
little does Dante know that his lust for Stacy will gradually
ruin his life. During a visit to Atlanta, Stacy's past becomes
Dante's future and almost causes his death. After spending ten
weeks at the Atlanta medical center, he meets another
character named Ophelia who thinks he's an Adonis; once again
his life changes and more drama ensues.
It was always my intention to read one of Mr. Aaron's
works. I've heard so much about his smoking sex scenes, which
this book lacked. It also lacked emotion and flow. I didn't
care for any of the characters, and the story seemed to be all
over the place. The twists were predictable and I was very
annoyed. While reading Burning Desire, I kept wondering
where the story was. As the book came to a close, I was
frustrated in an ending that left too many loose ends.

Hidden Agenda is an excellent read by Rochelle Alers.
There is romance, kidnapping, theft, and drug smuggling. It
could be classified as a romantic adventure. Alers does a
wonderful job of painting detailed pictures of the beautiful

book and series are wonderful reads.
Passion Overtime is a great read by Pamela Yaye.
Lots of people will be able to relate to and reminisce about
their college days. Yaye does a good job of giving background

Kacie Mayweather, Layla Hobbs, & Envy Wilson have been
friends for sometime and they all have a unique beauty. Some
have a beauty that comes from within, and others think that
their beauty starts outward and goes in. But will their bad
habits stop them from finding the true peace each of them
desires?
Kacie Mayweather was born with a disability that limits
the things she can do, but that has not stopped her from
reproducing. With each man she has sex with, she always gets
pregnant. She always manages to find a way to provide for
her children. When Kacie meets someone that belongs to her
church, she just knows that he was sent from God. He does
not ask her for anything and just wants to be with her and
her children. Is he the right man for her, or is he just a
figment of her imagination?
Layla Hobbs has a voice that would make the angels in
heaven jump up and sing. But her outer appearance is
hindering her from truly enjoying her gifts from the Lord.
When someone shows interest in her, the little confidence
she had starts to spiral out of control. She cannot believe
that someone could be interested in her knowing that she is
having a problem with her weight. Will Layla be able to
overcome her issues or just let her insecurities get the
best of her?
Envy Wilson was the prettiest out of the bunch and she
knew it. Even as a child, she hated her name, but she knew
people envied her because of her beauty. Envy has a dark
past that she will not share with anyone...not even those
that are closest to her. Will Envy finally find that one
person that can break down that barrier, or will she just go
on with life as usual?
In Beautiful Ugly, Sheila E. Lipsey gives just
enough details about each character that you will know what
each of them is going through. I enjoyed the way that the
author puts showed that each lady was battling their own
insecurities in some way. But when God was trying to talk to
them, they were not listening. The storyline was well
developed, but the only problem was the way each character
was introduced. I found that I kept going trying to figure
out if I skipped a page. That was just a little confusing.
But once you get over that hump, Beautiful Ugly is a
good read.

an FBI agent becomes low on her list of priorities. But when
Deidre uncovers a dangerous plot that goes as far back as her
father's death, she may not live to tell the truth.
Hush is a riveting novel by Amaleka McCall. McCall
expertly brings readers into the world of an FBI agent. From
the very first page, you know that this is not going to be an
ordinary novel. The character development is one of the things
that makes this book stand out. Deidre is a character that
you'll sympathize with even though some of her actions are
quite questionable. The members of the F.A.B. were well
thought out characters as well. This author did a wonderful
job with providing a very realistic conclusion to this story
while including some shocking twists along the way. Hush
is full of political cover-ups, FBI corruption, and gritty
drama that makes this book a mystery thriller that will be
hard to put down. With this second book, Amaleka McCall once
again proves that she has what it takes to have a long and
successful writing career.

Lori Johnson A Natural Woman
Dr. Aliesha Eaton, an
anthropology college professor at Wells College, is in serious
need for a haircut, but that's not all she needs. When she
allows young, dark, sexy natural hair stylist and barber,
Dante Douglas to place his hands in her hair more than sparks
fly. A guttural yearning she didn't know she had emerges when
he massages her head. Meanwhile Dante aches to get lost in
Aliesha's hair again, which scares him. He must keep their
relationship a professional one, but with Aliesha...it's
almost impossible to do. It's a good thing that she is in a
loveless relationship with Javiel, and Dante's spirit is tied
to a married woman. But what would happen if they both
released their emotional chains? Could they be a match made in
heaven?
A Natural Woman has a clear plot that takes readers
through a typical romance with a nice payoff at the end.
However, if Johnson wanted to give readers what they really
wanted--what would make this story a juicier more satisfying
read, she could have ended the novel with "the encore."
Likewise, there were spots in the book that lagged and slowed
down the pace. Aliesha's work life issues didn't move us
closer to or farther from her relationship with Dante. It
didn't have much place. On the other hand, Johnson did a great
job weaving black spiritualism into the novel. However, I
would have liked to have known why, despite Aliesha's strong
church involvement and vast Christian education knowledge, her
spiritual maturity was constantly challenged when it came to
her lovers.

Secrets and Lies.

and goals in life. They accept the good, the bad, and the
ugly to stand together against all odds. Kim is the vocal
one of the four with her ghetto mentality, yet despite the
strength she exudes, she has a weakness for a married man.
Neli is the weakest link and her insecurities play a major
role as she secretly covets the possession of one of the
quartet's most precious possessions. Sasha loves her
friends as much as the love of her life, Chauncey, who
seems to love the drug game more than her. While Tatum is
the authentic diva with looks, luxury, confidence, and
style, she's missing the love of a good man.
Tatum effortlessly steals the show with her encounter

character that lures you in with his poetic quips and his
sexy dialect; let's not even begin to mention his looks,
power, attitude or prowess in sharing his love.
Thicker Than Water is an energetic read focusing

jealousy, rivalry, deception, betrayal, and loyalty all
flourish as the story line expands. This is my first

age old plot and portraying it in an impressive and
superbly written novel. Ms. Allen incorporates suspense
and a tad of mystery to make this an even more pleasurable

high hopes for the conclusion of this story line and
anxiously await the sequel! Kudos Takerra...Kudos!
