Urban Reviews: Tell us more about your latest book Guarding His Body.
A.C. Arthur: Guarding His Body is the first book in Kimani’s Romance on the Run
series. This series blends Kimani’s traditional steamy romance
elements with suspense plotlines designed to keep readers riveted.
Guarding His Body, kicked off this series with the story of Sabrina
Desdune, an ex-marine turned bodyguard and Lorenzo Bennett, an
erotic sculpture whose life is endangered by a plot of revenge
directed towards his family. Lorenzo can’t believe that this tiny
woman is supposed to be protecting him and has no intention of
letting her get hurt on his watch. But Sabrina is determined to do
her job, to prove her point and to not fall in love. Unfortunately,
she’s not successful in each of those aspects. Each story in this
series will have on the edge of your seat suspense and heart
stopping romance…a perfect combination if you ask me!
Urban Reviews: Where did you come up with the idea for this novel?
A.C. Arthur: I was at Romance Slam Jam 2005 in Dallas and early one morning The
Bodyguard with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner was on. I hadn’t
seen this movie in a while and as I was watching I wondered how
Kevin Costner would have reacted if tiny little Whitney was hired to
guard his body. Thus Sabrina and Lorenzo were born.
Urban Reviews: You also have a new book out under Urban Books titled
Indecent Proposal. Can you tell us what that novel is all
about?
A.C. Arthur: Indecent Proposal is my first step into contemporary fiction.
It is the story of four women who in one weekend have their lives
changed forever. It’s full of erotic scenes, drama and twists and
turns that will end shockingly. I’m very excited about this story of
trust, change and betrayal.
Urban Reviews: What are your expectations when it comes to your career as
an author?
A.C. Arthur: Actually, I don’t expect anything. Being an author is not only my
career, but my passion so basically as long as I can write stories I
am content. I love sharing my stories with the world of readers but
I don’t have expectations of becoming anything other than what I
already am.
Urban Reviews: Is there a preference for writing contemporary fiction over
romance or vice versa? Why?
A.C. Arthur: That depends what day you’re asking the question.
~smile~ My moods play a
huge part in what I write and when…that and deadlines. LOL I’m
an eclectic reader so I tend to write in the same fashion. I love
bringing two people together in larger than life romance, but I also
enjoy the realistic situations fiction can depict.
Urban Reviews: What things about the book industry do you like and
dislike?
A.C. Arthur: This list could go on forever. LOL!
Seriously, the book industry is just like any other industry: legal,
music, acting, etc. There are people who will do and say anything to
get what they want, there are good and bad companies, rules broken
and rules adhered. At the end of the day, it’s a cycle that you need
to be mentally prepared for before stepping on board. What I try to
do is keep in mind that there’s a part of the industry that’s
business—to that end I try to be as professional as possible. The
other part is passion for the craft—as long as I continue to hone my
craft I will survive. ~smile~
Urban Reviews: What projects are you working on for the future? When
can we expect it to be released?
A.C. Arthur: Currently I’m working on the sequel to Indecent Proposal—tentatively
titled Indecent Exposure—to be released August 2009. I just
completed another Kimani romance in my Donovan Family series,
Pressing Her Luck, to be released in August 2009.
Urban Reviews: What authors do you feel have been major inspirations for
you to decide to become a writer?
A.C. Arthur: I started my teenage years reading Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts.
As time progressed I read Terri McMillan and Bernice McFadden. So
I’d say they all played a part in my decision to take the leap into
the literary world.
Urban Reviews: What would you tell others thinking about becoming an
author and getting into the book business?
People say that patience is a virtue. I believe that. Just like
persistence. If this is what you really want to do don’t let the
amount of rejection letters or bad reviews or anything else stop
you.
Urban Reviews: What do you want people to know most about you?
A.C. Arthur: That I’m just like anybody else. Really, I’m a mother, a wife, an
author, a child of God and I take each role very seriously.
