Urban Reviews: Tell our
readers about Caring What People Think.
Daphine Glenn Robinson: Well, Caring
What People Think is about a young woman who allows pain
from her past to block blessings in her future.
Urban Reviews: Where did
you come up with idea for this novel?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: The opening scene
was an idea I had one day as I sat in my driveway waiting for
my garage door to open. I thought, "What if I saw someone
hanging in the garage as the door opened?" Sounds morbid, but
that’s how it started.
Urban Reviews: What are
your goals as a writer?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: I want to share
life stories with lots of drama while blessing the reader with
a holistic, redeeming message.
Urban Reviews: You also
have another book called Brotherly Love and Betrayal. Can you
share with us what that is all about?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: Brotherly Love
and Betrayal is about a woman who finds comfort in the
arms of one of her husband’s relatives. I wanted to address
infidelity and forgiveness in the marriage in this book.
Urban Reviews: What has
been the biggest challenge that you had to overcome in regards
to your novels?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: I am
self-published, which offers its own set of challenges. Many
times doors are shut because of those two words. However, I am
now able to get into large chain bookstores and my name and
books are more recognized since I’ve been hustling for the
last three years.
Urban Reviews: Has there
been anyone in the literary world that has provided you with
great advice or inspiration?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: Victoria
Christopher Murray and Kimberla Lawson Roby have offered me
very sound advice and encouragement over the years.
Urban Reviews: Do you
have any planned projects for the future?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: Yes, I am
currently working on Jail House Religion, which if I’m
not picked up by an agent or publisher, will be released in
2010.
Urban Reviews: What is
one misconception about the business that aspiring authors
should know the truth about?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: I, like many,
thought that once you published a book, all of your financial
troubles would be over! NOT! Most of the money I make goes
right back into the business of printing, editing, and
promoting.
Urban Reviews: What
things do you like to do when you are not penning your next
novel?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: I love to dance,
read, and spend quality time with my family.
Urban Reviews: Is there
anything else you would like to share about yourself or your
novel?
Daphine Glenn Robinson: If you’ve been
hurting, dealt with depression, or knows someone with bipolar
disorder, Caring What People Think is the book for you.
You may think I’ve written it about someone you know! |
