Urban Reviews: Tell our readers about Destiny Hope Faith Divine.
Deaubrey Devine: Well, Destiny Hope Faith Divine is about four characters walking
through the storms of relationships to their Destiny by Hope, Faith,
and Divine intervention.
As a single brother that likes to have a good time while living life
as it comes, Divine gets involved with a successful businesswoman
named Faith who has some deep-rooted psychotic traits. He tries to
shake the master manipulator by getting off the market and marrying
Destiny, only to find out her confliction and unstableness is more
than he can bear. After connecting again with his high school
sweetheart, Hope, he finds out she is experiencing the same
tribulations with her man. The two find themselves offering
encouragement, helping hands, and listening ears as they hurdle
their relationship obstacles. Soon, Divine finds himself caught in a
love triangle that is anything but simple. This tantalizing novel
filled with passionate love, electrifying drama, and climatic
triumph makes this read a must-have for every reader’s bookshelf.
Urban Reviews: Where did the idea for this novel come from?
Deaubrey Devine: I've always desired to have a little girl named Destiny Hope Faith
with my last name Devine. I have always had a special affection for
those words because they all are very powerful words. Alone they are
powerful combined they are life-giving. As an author, the intrigue
of the names sparked me to create a novel using characters with the
names I adore.
Urban Reviews: What made you want to get into writing? Is it something you see
yourself doing long term?
Deaubrey Devine: As a youth, I loved to write long love
letters to that special someone or drop a few lines of hope and
cheer in a Get Well Soon or Birthday card. My talent for writing was
exposed and connected when I decided to pick up a pen to pursue a
career as a novelist after my professional football career ended in
2007. I’ve always been a down to earth person that listens well and
encourages often. I asked God to show me the way to reach others and
he did so through my writing. He uses me as an open vessel and
allows my passion for writing to encourage and inspire others. I
defiantly see myself as a long term writer that has a bright upside
in this industry.
Urban Reviews: What things did you do to help prepare yourself for the release
of your debut novel?
Deaubrey Devine: The first thing I did to help me prepare for
the release of my debut novel was reach out to different people in
the literary industry. I connected and partnered with many valuable
resources on the MySpace internet site to get a start. By networking
diligently on my project with the information that was being shared;
it took me no time to register for conferences, learn the different
of do’s and don’ts from others experiences in this industry, and
network with other author’s to form a marketing strategy to promote
my novel month’s in advance.
Urban Reviews: What was your biggest challenge when it came to writing?
Deaubrey Devine: My
biggest challenge when it comes to writing is finding time. During
the course of a day when I’m maintaining a full time job and trying
to live the joys life, it’s hard to turn on the computer and start
creating that next best seller. I’ve learned that writing a book
isn’t easy and all talk; you really have to dedicate and focus on
your project until it is complete.
Urban Reviews: With so many books coming out these days, what things are you
doing to promote your book?
Deaubrey Devine: As an author the real work begins when
the promoting of the book starts. The keys to getting Destiny Hope Faith Divine onto the shelves and into the hands of my readers is
sheer drive and determination. I have been out and about in public
attending, conferences and networking events and interviews. I have
also visited book festivals and book club meetings. Some of my
ventures also include hiring promotional marketing professionals
along with text messaging alerts and blogs.
Urban Reviews: Are there plans or ideas for any upcoming projects?
Deaubrey Devine: My journey
continues with my next novel titled My Purpose. Allow me to give you a
little insight into my next book. It is the story of a young kid
growing up through the mist of trials and tribulations. This book is
a good read for parents, students, coaches, athletes, and young
adults. All will be touched and inspired by this novel that's due to
be released in March.
Urban Reviews: Do you have any favorite authors or books that you enjoy reading?
Deaubrey Devine: Both Eric Jerome Dickey and Carl Weber are very inspirational
writers to me because they both write about relationships that one
can relate to. I’m also inspired and driven by Michael Baisden for
his entrepreneur desires and self motivation.
Urban Reviews: What's the best advice you've gotten from anyone in the
business?
Deaubrey Devine: The best advice I’ve gotten this literary industry is to
write the manuscript for readers and not myself. That little insight
caused me many arguments with my editor and was such a barrier for
me to break because I thought everything I wrote should be in the
book. After giving in to the criticism and understanding different
creative ways to deliver that same message, I released that baby I
was holding on to and was able to birth a page turner that readers
can’t put down.
Urban Reviews: What else would you like to share with us about yourself or
your novels?
Deaubrey Devine: I write novels that sow seeds in people’s lives and
bring to them stories that are real, up front, and provide drama. I
want to bring out embedded thoughts that readers can readily relate
to. As an author, I try to allow my characters to speak on the
behalf of everyone and provide wisdom, knowledge, and understanding
in different situations that life sends our way. Some messages are
meant strictly to provide hope in the midst of the storm and put a
little smile on someone’s face. Most times it is important to be
able to laugh through those times and know that things will work out
in your favor if you keep pressing through it. I’m a strong believer
in the power of words which allow my writing to be taken seriously
because it’s real and uncensored, which will serve to make your
reading of my books much more enjoyable.
