Urban Reviews: Tell our readers about Love Lust And A Whole Lotta Distrust.
DeiIra Smith-Collard:
Combine the ingredients of love, lust, lies and deception and you
have a recipe for disaster. Love Lust & A Whole Lotta Distrust is
absolutely what the title says; Love Lust and a WHOLE Lotta
Distrust!
The four women of Synergy Wireless cross their work and play and
they definitely live up to the title. Nicole, Carmell, Kendra and
Natina are all on a quest to find true love and happiness, but this
is no easy journey.
Nicole is deceptive...all in the name of love. And when it comes to
getting the man of her dreams, she leaves no stone left unturned. She
will have him at all cost, even if it means trampling her best friend
Kendra. Kendra's sexy secret haunts her and then consumes her. Her
life is picture perfect from the outside, everything that everyone
wants, yet her inner desires cause her to step out of her
comfortable marriage and into the complicated arms of her lover. Carmell sees Natina's kindness as a bond of sisterhood, until
Natina's true motives are revealed. Carmell's rejection of Natina
causes her to spin a plan of revenge, using Carmell's love interest
as bait. Unknowingly, Carmell becomes a part of Natina's chess game
of lies. Natina uses precise tactics and checkmate moves to ensure
destruction until the bitter end.
Love Lust & a Whole Lotta Distrust is a rollercoaster ride of
emotions, deception, joys and fears that keeps you intrigued until
the turbulent end. Hope you're ready!
Urban Reviews: Where did the idea for this novel come from?
DeiIra Smith-Collard: The idea for this novel hit me while sitting at my desk at work.
Taking a swift look around my workplace, the call center floor
always seemed to be buzzing. If you keep your ear close enough to
the street, or to the call center floor I should say, you could
learn everything about everybody. You could know who was dating who,
who broke up with who, who swings which way and who tried to get who
fired (and all before lunch I might add.)
Seeing this around me, I thought that this would be the perfect platform
for a book. I had never read a book about a call center and I
thought, "Hmmm, there are a million other call center employees or
employees period that can probably identify." So I started writing
that day and Love Lust & a Whole Lotta Distrust was born.
Urban Reviews: What made you want to get into writing? Is it something you see
yourself doing long term?
DeiIra Smith-Collard: I've always believed I have a God given writing ability, and it was
nourished by wonderful educators that pushed me to perfect my craft.
I love to write; it's an emotional release for me. It's a way to
tell the world about everything I see and all the things I dream. It
gives me a way to share my hopes and fears, my likes and dislikes
and I would do it for an eternity.
Urban Reviews: What things did you do to help prepare yourself for the book
business? (read books, take a writing class, learn about publishing
rights, etc)
DeiIra Smith-Collard: My motto, learn as much as you can as often as you can. I would say
I did all of the above. I take creative writing classes to better my
writing. I read countless books and search for writing tips to teach
me different ways and new tools to make my story stronger. I
research all there is to know about the book business. I self-published the first novel, and believe me, I made my mistakes along
the way. But in the end, I've learned from those mistakes. From the beginning to the end,
from writing to printing I've read it and done it. I learned how to
format my book, create a book cover, and set up distribution. I've even
learned about contracts and publishing rights. If there is a book
about it, I have read it. But I believe some of my most valuable
information came from wonderful book veterans I've met along my
journey to become a successful writer.
Urban Reviews: What's the best advice any author has given you concerning the
book business?
DeiIra Smith-Collard: Whenever I am asked this question my first answer is, DON'T GIVE UP.
The road is a long one and unless your pockets are long or you know
someone who knows someone, then it's not an easy one. There will be
rejection letter upon rejection letter and some people will hate
what you write while others will love it. A new author has to stay
on their toes, learning all that they can and they can never think
they've learned it all. Not only are you a writer but you are a
business owner, and your novel is your business, in order to be
successful you must put your best product forward.
Urban Reviews: What has been your biggest lesson learned regarding the promotion
of your novel?
DeiIra Smith-Collard: I've learned that promotion is necessary. A lot of authors are
concerned about the dollar; sometimes your sales are not monetary.
You have to continually push your novel. Book stores, book clubs,
interviews and book fairs are all great ways to promote yourself.
Urban Reviews: Are you working on or have any ideas for an upcoming project?
DeiIra Smith-Collard: Yes, I've just finished my second novel, Secrets Sins and Shameful
Lies. It is the sequel to Love Lust & A Whole Lotta Distrust and
will be released March 2009.
Urban Reviews: Do you have any favorite authors or books that you enjoy reading?
DeiIra Smith-Collard: I absolutely love to read and I can't say I have a favorite author.
I have a love for great stories so I read so many different genres
and authors. I love to read Sidney Sheldon, Mary B. Morrison, Joylynn M. Jossel and as of late Allison Hobbs (I'm loving her
writing style).
Urban Reviews: What do you like to do outside of writing? (hobbies,
activities, etc.)
DeiIra Smith-Collard: My second passion to writing would be photography. Like writing, it
allows me creative expression. If I don't have a pen to paper, you
can find me clicking away to tell my story with pictures.
Urban Reviews: What else would you like to share with us about yourself or
your novels?
DeiIra Smith-Collard: I want to let readers know that I enjoy hearing from them. After you
read any of my writing, feel free to contact me with your thoughts. I
value the opinion of my readers, and that is how I continue to better
my writing. In between novels, you can still find more of my writing
on my website, www.deiira.com. Every Monday a new story unfolds,
