Urban Reviews:  Tell us about your latest book Up All Night.
Delilah Dawson:  Up All Night is the first of a trilogy based on the Orchid Soul, the hottest matchmaking online service that is just about to debut on the internet, as soon as the owner finishes working out the kinks. The screening process is all about matchmaking through sexual fantasies and finding sexual compatibilities. So when player-hating Natasha Madison decides to do her entrepreneurial friend a solid and become an anonymous tester, she had no idea her test fantasies would be revealed, much less her identity!  Never one to let an opportunity slide, fellow tester, Logan Taylor, doesn't mind taking advantage of the unexpected turn of events -- although it's clear to Natasha that he's completely Mr. Wrong! Well, except that with each intimate fantasy they share, Logan sure feels more and more like Mr. Right...

Urban Reviews:  Where did you come up with the idea for this book?
Delilah Dawson:  Ideas just pop into my head!  Sometimes it starts with an observation of the people around me.   I'm a "people watcher" and jumping to conclusions about what may or may not be going on is how most of my ideas start.

Urban Reviews:  What can we look forward to in the remaining books in the Orchid Soul trilogy?
Delilah Dawson:  Each of the trilogy books is different in its own way, yet still steamy (IMHO).  I want to show how fantasies can be short term desires, or long-term hopes.  They can be subliminal and revealing even when these characters submit them anonymously.  I also wanted to show how people that are not necessarily looking for love can stumble into it, and end up holding on because they know its worth.   I hate to spoil any of the story line in advance, but I hope you enjoy the books.

Urban Reviews:  Do you have any other projects on on the forefront that you are working on?
Delilah Dawson:  I tend to only work one book at a time, so at the moment, I’m finishing up the last of the trilogy.  But stay tuned!

Urban Reviews:  Do you find it difficult coming up with new ideas for books?  Why or why not?
Delilah Dawson:  Ideas are always jumping out at me!  I'm constantly writing notes about ideas to be used later and my pile is quite stacked.   To me, having an idea is not the same as weaving it into a story, though.  That part is tricky.

Urban Reviews:  How do you think the currently landscape for African-American Erotica help or hinder your titles?
Delilah Dawson:  I'm very pleased that number of AA erotica authors are expanding.  I think there’s room enough for all of us because we all write with a slightly different flavor that shows how diverse the stories can be.  I think it helps my books to be a part of this diversity because readers enjoy variety and if they like my style, they come back for seconds.  :)

Urban Reviews:  You mention on your site that you were a romance fan from a young age.  Who were some of your favorite authors growing up?
Delilah Dawson:  Gosh, I can’t remember the author names, but the covers are vivid in my mind.  Before I had any business doing so, Jennifer (yes, I’m ratting out one of my fellow students) used to sneak in her mother’s Harlequin (and Mills & Boon) books by the handful to school.  I devoured them like Tic-Tacs.  In those days, it was all about wealthy sheiks, Greek millionaires and globe-trotting playboys—and a whole lotta mild, sweet kisses from very arrogant men.  It was like falling in love with a well-mannered James Bond.  That only lasted until she got me some Jackie Collins and Harold Robbin’s books.   I forgot all about Nancy Drew after that.

Urban Reviews:  What do you like to do in your spare time?
Delilah Dawson:  What spare time?  LOL.  My very favorite thing to do when I have any chunk of time to myself is to read, read, and read.

Urban Reviews:  What do you think is the one thing that sets your stories apart from everyone else?
Delilah Dawson:  I think it's that I write about more than just the steamy sex when couples fall in love.  I think that process is what people can relate to and IMHO, it makes the characters more memorable.  It thrills me to no end to get emails from fans wanting to follow up on the fictional characters into the future.  I know then that they’ve come to love the characters as much as I do.

Urban Reviews:  What are your goals as a writer?  Do you see yourself venturing into other genres at all?
Delilah Dawson:  Yes, I absolutely!  I have old manuscripts I've written (different genres) sitting under my bed, because the market wasn’t buying, or my stories just didn’t appeal to an editor (and in some cases, righty so).   I see it as a challenge and opportunity to grow myself as a writer.  I’m one of those writers that NEEDS to write primarily for myself, or else my muse disappears.   So it’s fair to say that if I get an idea for a story—no matter the genre—chances are that I’ll write that story, even if ends up being enjoyed by the dust bunnies under my bed.  :).
