Inside Out
with Endy

Endy

Endy was born in Newark, NJ. She first noticed her creative nitch when she was 9 years old. She loved to read and write poems and short stories. At that age she had an imagination bigger then any ocean. She graduated from high school as a well rounded girl. Sports orientated and the personality to melt any heart of ice. She was known to her friends as the life of the party. She always told stories dramatizing them with wit and creativity, that you could imagine your self right there in the middle of it.

One day Endy sat down to do some creative poetry writing, when one thing led to another and before she realized she had created a manuscript. She sat on the manuscript for a long time not sure of what to do with it. So she began to write another. Endy met one of her favorite authors, Al-Saadiq Banks founder of True 2 Life Publications. She was introduced by a friend who was related to him. From there it was the beginning of her first introduction to Crystal Lacey Winslow who was interested in her work and later she signed with Melodrama.

Endy now resides in Kansas City, Missouri, where she is raising her two daughters. She is currently still volunteering many of her hours to coach children and dedicates her time to helping others. She is also currently working on her next novel and plans to pump out many more.

Urban Reviews: Tell us about In My 'Hood.
Endy:
In My ‘Hood is a novel about a woman named Desiree “Rae Rae” Johnson. She is a smart woman with her head on straight and a very bright future. An accidental meeting with her soul mate Bilal turns into a whirlwind love affair. While in love Desiree is blinded by the fact that her current beau has a heroine addiction, instead of leaving she tries to understand the addiction and she ends up becoming addicted to cocaine thinking that will keep them close. Desiree finds herself in the center of all the drama as she witnesses a double murder, plans a robbery and serves a five year prison term. Once she was released she vowed to make a better life for herself by hook or crook. She never imagined meeting, let alone falling head over heels in love with the largest drug dealer in the hood Ishmael, not knowing his secret past.

Urban Reviews: What inspired you to create the storyline for this novel?
Endy:
I believe life’s experiences play a big part in where ideas come from to start a project. Most times I just sit down with the sword and start penning. What evolves from there becomes the manuscript. It's like, all the knowledge that I have from my life is stored in the back of my brain and when I start writing it unravels and spills onto the pad. I believe the higher power has plans for me and through Him I am gifted.

Urban Reviews: In My 'Hood leaves room for a possible sequel. Is there a sequel in the works?
Endy:
Umm…Maybe there will be a guest appearance somewhere down the line. But no I’m not working on a sequel.

Urban Reviews: How did you get into the business?
Endy:
Well let’s say I was honored and had the pleasure of meeting one of my favorite authors Al-Saadiq Banks founder of True 2 Life Productions. He is such a down dude. He’s really True 2 Life. By the time I met him I had sent my manuscript out to countless publishing companies with no response. Mr. Banks hooked me up with Crystal Lacey Winslow Founder of Melodrama Publishing another one of my favorite authors and the rest is history.

Urban Reviews: Are you working on any upcoming projects?
Endy:
No Doubt, I am working on it as we speak.

Urban Reviews: How do you balance your writing career with your everyday life?
Endy:
Through the grace of God, I’m telling you it is not easy but the job gets done everyday. I work a regular 9-5 I have two daughters 13 & 10. I come home to my second job, that’s what I call home. There’s homework, cooking, after school activities, etc. My children know that I deserve a certain amount of time to myself to do what I do. They’re good girls and they understand. I do most of my penning during the night hours when the girls have gone to bed. Its rough, most times I’m tired from lack of sleep. But, I do what I do to get what I want. It’s all about the hustle.

Urban Reviews: Have you've gotten any sound advice from other authors?
Endy:
Most definitely, of course Al-Saadiq Banks has kept it real. Crystal Lacey Winslow is my main advisor. She is so grounded and understanding, yet she has so much knowledge and schools me about my craft. J. M. Benjamin is as real as they come. Ty Goode has helped me out a lot. Kashamba Williams is so down to earth and unselfish. Y Blak Moore has been very helpful to me as well.

Urban Reviews: Do you have any favorite authors or books?
Endy:
Yes I do, I’ll just name a few because I do like many. Roy Glenn, Al-Saadiq Banks, Terri Woods, Kashamba Williams, K’WAN, Crystal Lacey Winslow, Donald Goines, Omar Tyree, Y Blak Moore. I liked Steven King and Judy Blume growing up, Erick Jerome Dickey, Iyanla Vanzant, T.D. Jakes, Carl Weber, Wahida Clark, Mary B Morrison and so on.

Favorite books: Dutch Triology, Block Party, Life, Love and Loneliness, G-Spot, Every Thug Needs a Lady, Sheisty, Road Dawgs, Baby Momma Drama, Coldest Winter Ever, Addicted, The Maintenance Man, Let That be The Reason, Dopefiend and the list goes on. That’s more then a few right? (LOL) There are just too many to name.

Urban Reviews: What is biggest thing that you've learned about the book industry so far?
Endy:
That there are a lot of published and unpublished books out there. I had no idea that there where so many. I found out about the underground books that most people don’t have a clue about. Those authors are trying to get there names out there too. Also just like anything else in life you have to grind hard in the literary world. I’m just so grateful that I was accepted into a close nit and grounded family with Melodrama Publishing.

Urban Reviews: Name one thing that the world doesn't know about Endy-the person?
Endy:
Well there’s quite a bit, but I will say this, Endy the person is someone who has an individualistic approach to life. I am an abstract thinker with disregard for the routine. I sacrificed a lot throughout my life and learned to tolerate a hell of a lot more striving to reach for achieving success while maximizing a strong sense of myself.
