Urban Reviews:
Start by telling our readers about Black Skyy.
Janet Stevens Cook:
Black Skyy is the
first installment in the Lady In Black Series. Black Skyy
is about a woman who runs a global communications
conglomerate by day, and at night she is a vigilante. She
travels between New York and DC and does a bit of an
international stint as well. It is a thriller that is fast
paced and very entertaining. The novel is also
thought-provoking. And while it thoroughly engages the
reader, Black Skyy ultimately spurs the reader to
take action in his/her personal life by getting involved.
Urban Reviews: How
did you come up with the idea for this storyline and the
main character Sandy?
Janet Stevens Cook:
The idea of Black Skyy and the main
character Skyy ironically just came to me. I think Skyy is
actually my alias. I would love to do the things that comes
so natural for her. She's courageous, determined, ambitious
and incredibly sexy.
Urban Reviews: What
led you to pen your first novel?
Janet Stevens Cook:
I had just finished reading The
Coldest Winter Ever by Sista Souljah, and I started to
write my book the very next day. I guess Winter inspired
me.
Urban Reviews: When
can we expect your next novel?
Janet Stevens Cook:
The sequel to Black Skyy is
titled Red Dawn and will be released in July 2008.
Urban Reviews: What
is your overall impression of the book industry so far?
Is it what you expected it to be?
Janet Stevens Cook:
I am loving this journey so far. The
book industry is wonderful, and the readers that I meet are
unbelievably supportive. Writing this book has reaffirmed my
belief that humanity is good at the core. I am humbled by
this entire experience, and I feel blessed and honored to
have this opportunity.
Urban Reviews: How
does your family and/or friends feel about your book or
writing venture in general?
Janet Stevens Cook:
All of my friends and family are proud
of me. I have received so many e-mails from my sorority
sisters, and fellow Howard Alum that I cannot tell you how
warm my heart is. The most important thing, however, is that
both my daughter and son are proud of me. I could not be
happier.
Urban Reviews: Do
you happen to have any favorite authors or books?
Janet Stevens Cook:
Some of my favorite authors are James
Patterson, Terry McMillan and Walter Mosley. One of my
favorite books is Manchild in the Promise Land by
Claude Brown.
Urban Reviews: Name
one thing that the world does not know about Janet Stevens
Cook-the person?
Janet Stevens Cook:
The one thing in this world that
people may not know about me is the gratitude that I
possess. I come across very ambitious and assertive. I
am a hard worker and relentless in the pursuit of success.
However, I am so very thankful that my journey has taken the
turns that it has and I cannot thank God enough. I am
determined to help all who may want to write or publish a
book. I want to give seminars or set-up an online help site.
I don't know...something to that effect. Anyways, I do thank
Urban Reviews for thinking of me and Black Skyy. |
