Urban Reviews: Can you
please tell us about Dark Indiscretions?
Jasqulyn: Well, Dark Indiscretions
takes a look into the minds of average women who were not
afraid to take control of their sexual destinies. Dark
Indiscretions is a collection of short stories about women
who made some sort of bold and daring step into the world of
sexual pleasure.
Urban Reviews: Where did
the idea for this book come from?
Jasqulyn: Growing up I read many romance
novels, where the women always seemed, to me, to be always
waiting on someone or something to happen in order to make
essentials change in their lives. I wanted to write about
women who were not afraid to take what they wanted… and in
this case it was sex.
Urban Reviews: How difficult
has it been to market and promote your work to the masses?
Jasqulyn: Being a self published author,
I have found it difficult to reach my target audience via
traditional methods. But the advances in the Internet (i.e.
Facebook, MySpace, Ning, etc) has given me the ability to
reach many more people than I would have been able to on my
own.
Urban Reviews: Has there
been anything that you've done that you would do differently
in hindsight?
Jasqulyn: When I was done with my
manuscript I was so excited to have finished and wanted it
published so quickly I skipped a few steps in the editing and
production that in hindsight I wished I would have taken the
time to check and recheck.
Urban Reviews: If you could
pick one person to do a book project with, what author would
that be and why?
Jasqulyn: Don’t have one...sorry!
Urban Reviews: How has the
whole 'debut author' title changed your life?
Jasqulyn: It has definitely been a change
for the better. I am happy that I could write for the masses
and people enjoy my work.
Urban Reviews: Are you
working on or have any ideas for an upcoming project?
Jasqulyn: I am working on two books right
now and having learned so much the first time around, I will
take my time and really hope that people enjoy the next ones
as well.
Urban Reviews: Do you have
any favorite authors or books?
Jasqulyn: Even though they
are not in my specific genre, I really like Laurell K.
Hamilton and Kim Harrison.
Urban Reviews: What
activities do you like to do outside of writing?
Jasqulyn: I like gardening and spending
time with friends.
Urban Reviews: Is there
anything else you would like to share about yourself or your
book?
Jasqulyn: I just hope that people enjoy
my work and find inspiration for themselves. It is not easy
being a black female in America, we are often looked down upon
for a lot if the decisions we make in life and I just wanted
to write about people who were not afraid to take a leap. |
