 Inside Out
with Jessica A. Robinson

Jessica A. Robinson

Jessica A. Robinson is a fresh, new author from Ohio. She's also one-fourth of a national Hip-Hop group named Carnival who's national release "Population of Invisible People" hit stores July 28, 2009. She has always been an avid reader but came into the wonderful world of writing by accident. Upon losing her father when she was ten to pancreatic cancer, she began journaling as a form of therapy. The emotions and thoughts expressed on paper turned into short stories and continued to evolve from there.

Coming from such a rich background in the church of having twelve ministers in her family, she writes about the things she's went through and the things people have gone through around her. Her spiritual heritage was the breeding ground for her very own genre, "Church Dramedy."

Urban Reviews:  Tell our readers about Holy Seduction.
Jessica A. Robinson:
Well, Holy Seduction is about a pastor's wife who is living a double life behind her husband's back. She has everything that a woman could ever want, and she's still not satisfied.

Urban Reviews:  How did the idea for this book come about?
Jessica A. Robinson:
The idea for Holy Seduction came about one day when I was bored and I wanted to go out. None of my friends were available, so whenever I'm bored, I usually write. And once I sat down at the computer, the storyline just came to me.

Urban Reviews:  What made you want to get into writing? What are your goals as a writer?
Jessica A. Robinson:
I got into writing at an early age. When I was ten years old, I lost my father due to pancreatic cancer and my therapist suggested I write to express my feelings during that time, and it was then that I realized that I had a love for writing and throughout the years I kept up with it. My goals as a writer is to provide my readers with interesting and fresh stories that will cause them to see things in a different way. Also, my goal is to have titles and stories that are conversation pieces. I want to be great at what I do.

Urban Reviews:  Describe the day you found out that Peace In The Storm Publishing would be publishing your manuscript?
Jessica A. Robinson:
The day that I found out that my dream would finally be a reality was truly the happiest day of my life. I was at work and when I received the email that they were interested and everything was confirmed, I could barely do anything else. I had to call my family and friends to tell them the great news.

Urban Reviews:  What things are you doing to help your book stand out in such an ever-growing African-American fiction market?
Jessica A. Robinson:
Trying to be innovative in my marketing approaches. Spreading the word more creatively and letting my personality shine through everything I do.

Urban Reviews:  Is there an author or book you can point to as your inspiration to want to be a published author?
Jessica A. Robinson:
When I first picked up Kimberla Lawson Roby's Casting The First Stone and Victoria Christopher Murray's book Temptation made me realize that I wanted to write stories.

Urban Reviews:  Do you have any upcoming projects that we can look forward to?
Jessica A. Robinson:
Yes, I do. I have my next book, Pretty Skeletons, which will be released in early 2010. It's more of a dramatic piece as compared to Holy Seduction.

Urban Reviews:  Do you have any favorite authors?
Jessica A. Robinson:
Kim Roby, Tiffany Warren, E. Lynn Harris.

Urban Reviews:  You also are involved with a music group. Can you tell us about this outside venture?
Jessica A. Robinson:
Yes, I'm involved in a national gospel hip hop group called Carnival. We have been doing ministry for 16 years, and this is our first national release. Aside from writing, music is also my passion and I'm excited to see this dream of mine also come true.

Urban Reviews:  Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself or your novel?
Jessica A. Robinson:
Yes I would like to thank you for this opportunity for this interview. I also would like to thank everyone who has supported my first work. I believe everyone will come to enjoy my first installment in my "church dramedy" series. There's many more to come!
