Urban Reviews: Tell us about On
My Own.
Kesha K. Redmon:
On My Own
is a story about a woman, Kaylondria "Kaye" Parker, who has been unlucky
in love and imposes a man moratorium on herself. All this changes when she
is introduced to a very handsome and rich professional football player,
Jalen Matthews. Right from the start, she becomes totally enthralled with
Jalen. She soon interprets their "friendship" status as something more.
She becomes utterly bitter when Jalen leaves her to fend for herself. She
learns that sometimes you have to just make it on your own.
Urban Reviews: What inspired you to
create this novel?
Kesha K. Redmon:
I initially wrote this novel as a way of
venting. I've been called the CEO of the "Bitter Black Woman's Club." So
it was a way for me to prove to people that I do understand things from
both points of view.
Urban Reviews: At the end of
On My Own you left a little room for a sequel. Will there be one?
Kesha K. Redmon:
Everybody keeps asking me to do a sequel.
Actually, I never intended the novel to end as a cliffhanger. I'm thinking
about how I could spin the characters into another novel.
Urban Reviews: Are you working on any
upcoming projects?
Kesha K.
Redmon:
I have a few projects that I'm working
on. Nothing is actually completed at this time. So, I really don't want to
make any promises.
Urban Reviews: You have
a B.S. in Toxicology with a minor in Chemistry. With this background, what
made you decide to become an author?
Kesha K. Redmon:
I've always been a writer. Whether it was
papers for college or poetry, I was always creating something. I just
never thought of writing as a possible second career. The toxicology
degree was something I just jumped into.
Urban Reviews: What is
your overall impression of the book industry so far?
Kesha K. Redmon:
I think the book industry is great. There
are just so many different styles of writing. I don't think there should
be any excuse for anyone not to pick up a book and read. I'm just hoping
for longevity and sustainability.
Urban Reviews: Have you
received any good advice from other authors?
Kesha K. Redmon:
Yes, Travis Hunter is always positive.
Sheila Lipsey and Alisha Yvonne have also been wonderful with advice.
Urban Reviews: Who
are some of your favorite authors and books?
Kesha K. Redmon:
I'm an avid reader. I'll read anything
from Terry McMillan to J. K. Rowling. I love great stories. My favorites
are Eric Jerome Dickey, Terry McMillan, Carl Weber, Kimberla Lawson Roby,
oh wait...I love to read!
Urban Reviews: What do
you want people to know most about you?
Kesha K. Redmon:
I think people should know that I've
really been blessed. |
