Urban Reviews:
Tell our readers
about Wikked.
lmblakely: Wikked is a love triangle
filled with twisted plots, jealousy, treachery, hidden
agendas, broken hearts and a host of secrets revolving the
people in Niqi Brown's life.
Urban Reviews:
Where did the idea for this
novel come from?
lmblakely: It started out as journal
writing, but my imagination took me into another direction,
and it grew to much more than I anticipated.
Urban Reviews:
What are your goals as a
writer? What things are you doing to help you with
accomplishing those goals?
lmblakely: My goal as a writer is to
create compelling stories that will become classics, a must
read, hoping to expand and becoming a household name. I'm
extremely passionate about writing so I would like to do it
all. I'm constantly striving for a higher level of success and
at this point, I'm writing new material and educating myself
on the ins and outs of this industry.
Urban Reviews:
Has there been anything
that you've done that you would do differently in hindsight?
lmblakely: I'm sure I could think of a
number of things, but if I could do it differently, I would've
educated myself thoroughly.
Urban Reviews:
What's the best advice any
author has given you concerning the book business?
lmblakely: The best advice given was my
success is determined on how much I wanted it, tooting my own
horn and getting my name out there. Also, many authors have
shared how cut throat this industry is, so remaining humble
and focusing only on my projects is my main goal.
Urban Reviews:
What has been your biggest
challenge as a new author?
lmblakely: The biggest challenges I've
faced as a new author, like every new author, is learning the
ins and outs of this industry. I have found the publication
and promotion of Wikked to be challenging, yet
fulfilling.
Urban Reviews:
Are you working on or have
any ideas for an upcoming project?
lmblakely: Currently, I have several
projects in the works for 2009. Other than promoting Wikked,
I'm on a writing marathon.
Urban Reviews:
Do you have any favorite
authors or books?
lmblakely: I really don't have a favorite
author although I do admire E. Lynn Harris, Mary Monroe and
Sister Souljah. My favorite book is The Coldest Winter Ever,
because of sentimental reasons, she inspired me to write.
Urban Reviews:
What do you like to do
outside of writing? (hobbies, activities, etc.)
lmblakely: I absolutely love music and
its creation. I like to draw, sing, collect shot glasses,
movies (when they're not watching me) and watching the Atlanta
Falcons game.
Urban Reviews:
Is there anything else you
would like to share about yourself or your novel?
lmblakely: I just want to humbly thank
the readers for their kind words and support on my debut novel
and to be on the lookout for future lmblakely projects.
