Urban Reviews: Tell us about your latest book Shadows of the Heart?
Lord'Williams:
On the surface, Shadows of the Heart starts with a married couple
who is on the verge of divorce. Suspicion and past infidelity of the
husband cause the wife to start an adulterated affair with her
former partner and now superior, Lt. Wells. As the novel progresses
William & Yvonne, the main characters, both comes to realize that
you cannot just terminate an affair and expect there to be no
consequences. All parties involved find out the cost of love is
high, and the cost for loving William is a life of devastation. On
the bottom layer of the novel you find that it is completely
spiritually motivated between the two principalities of Good and
Evil.
Urban Reviews: What inspired you to write this novel?
Lord'Williams:
My Father, God Almighty. Shadows of the Heart is about how people
love and live through their relations with lovers, family, friends,
and strangers. The wife who has to deal with multiple issues, where
one is she’s more jealous about her husband’s character and charm
than his infidelity. Shadows touches on how a parent look at their
prostitute daughter, the insecure boyfriend, child molestation, the
darkness of one’s skin, the pain that comes from jealousy, the price
of pain we pay for love.
Urban Reviews: Will we be seeing these characters again in the future?
Lord'Williams:
Oh definitely, the real question is how many of these characters
will you see? Shadows of the Heart actually sits in the
middle of nine parts, a three volume series called The Unicorns. Shadows of the Heart is part one, volume two of The Unicorns - Petals in the
Sand. The series starts and follows William and Yvonne from their
late teens, but as of now I am thinking of publishing just 4 books
from the entire collection.
Urban Reviews: Do you have anything else that you are working on?
Lord'Williams:
Oh boy, do I. I have a few projects I am currently working on, like
The Thorns of Shadows, which is the sequel to Shadows of the Heart. In addition to The Unicorns, there are two other series.
One
is called The Rains, which is a true classical drama of boy meets
girl type of romance. The other is a bible study series called Stepping Into
Spirituality.
Urban Reviews: Why did you want to become a writer?
Lord'Williams:
Like many others, I’ve been writing since forever. I started when in
my pre-teens, but I was not as advent as I am now. I had always been
a great story teller, I love the way I used to capture an audience
when I did I created crazy tales. So writing came to me naturally
after so many fights over my story telling, (or lies might be best
said).
Urban Reviews: What obstacles have you come across during your
relatively new journey in the book business?
Lord'Williams:
I have learned the hard way that P.O.D. publishing was not for me. I
cannot afford to become the hustler which I must become at the price
I’m currently paying to have a published book. I have to go the
traditional self-publishing route, which I first avoided because I
thought the cost was out of reach. I am now venturing into it with
Lord’Williams Publishing Groups. The road will be hard
traveled, but with God by my side, I know I will prevail.
Urban Reviews: What are your goals as an author? Do you hope to be
signed to a major publisher one day?
Lord'Williams:
I don’t know. It have always been a dream of mine to be published by
the Dafina division of Kensington Publishing Corporation, but The
Unicorns deals with a lot of issues which I believe many traditional
publishers would probably trickle differently or somehow limit my work, as where I chose not to compromise. So I rather put an 110%
of my talent and effort in my product and in my own company.
Urban Reviews: Do you have any favorite authors or books?
Lord'Williams:
I have one book which I love called The Call and Response, The
Riverside Anthology of the African American Literary Tradition. I
feel this is a must for those who love AA Literature. My favorite
authors are Michael Baisden, Mary Monroe, Carl Weber, and Kimberla
Lawson-Roby.
Urban Reviews: What is your opinion on the state of the
African-American Fiction market?
Lord'Williams:
It is growing and developing into a formidable entity in the
publishing arena. A lot of thanks goes out to Urban Reviews, and the
many others who have dedicated their lives and talent to create this
avenue of availability for well-known, and unknown writers like
myself to reach out to people such as you, which our pockets cannot
afford.
Urban Reviews: What do you want the world to know most about you as an
author?
Lord'Williams:
I would like to world to see me as a serious writer. I would like to
see my work appear among a collection of works like that within the
Riverside Anthology. Where my work is studied for its literary
attributes, and not for its entertainment, such as during this
interview I have became aware of some errors in Shadows of the Heart. These
errors will be addressed, corrected and my buyers compensated.
