Urban Reviews: Tell our readers about Only Time will Tell.
Maseyree: Only Time Will Tell takes you back into the lives of sisters
Caroline and Dorothy and their emotional attempts to keep their
families together. Expressing how thin the line between love and
hate truly is, you will be forced to relate to the struggles these
sisters face. DRAMA! DRAMA! AND MORE DRAMA! In this twisted tale,
Dorothy, Caroline, Andrea and Punkin all have new issues in which
they are each faced with. Rather battling with bouts of love, death,
infidelity, sex, domestic disturbances, or unexpected pregnancies,
this bunch incurs it all, and no subject is taboo. This novel is
filled with gripping emotion, witty- humor, and believable
characters who will keep you wanting more. If you think It Just Gets Better
With Time was packed with drama, Only Time Will Tell
you how the madness ends. Get ready to be entertained.
Urban Reviews: How did the concept for this book come about?
Maseyree: The book was written after I received several hundred emails from
fans asking me what happens with the characters from the novel It Just Gets Better
With Time. They were emailing me with questions
like, "what happened to Andrea, and did Punkin find a man," so I had
to think of something quick since I originally hadn’t planned on
writing a sequel. So, one day I ended up just jotting down a few
ideas and before I knew it, Only Time Will Tell had surfaced.
I was still living in Michigan, and at the time, working in a
beauty salon when a friend came in bragging about a book that he had
written. I told him that I had always wanted to write a book and he
asked me what was I waiting on. That night I went home and started
writing my first book. I worked on it every opportunity I had, day
and night. A couple of days later I had hand written over four
hundred pages.
Urban Reviews: What has been the biggest challenge with the regard to your
novel?
Maseyree: The biggest challenge for me has been trying to get my novels on
major bookstore shelves. When you don’t have a major publisher
and/or distributor backing you it is hard to get the distributors to
put effort into seeing that your books are on shelves. Even though I
have people going into the stores requesting my novels, on a
regular, I still receive emails from readers who tell me that the
store told them that the books were listed as being out of stock.
Urban Reviews: What are your ultimate goals as far as the book industry?
Maseyree: I would like to see my novels listed on the Essence and The New
York Times Bestsellers list. And I’d also like to have my books sold
via Black Expressions book club.
Urban Reviews: What things did you do to help prepare you on your literary
journey?
Maseyree: After writing my first book, I took a few writing classes and
attended a few writers seminars where I learned lots of ways to
improve and become a more creative writer.
Urban Reviews: Do you have any ideas or plans for an upcoming project?
Maseyree: Of course. I am currently working on the screenplay for my first
novel It Just Gets Better
With Time. My plan is to direct and
produce a stage play or film based on the book. Actually, I plan to
produce a film for all of my novels. I am also working on my third
book that is looking to have a late 2010 release date.
Urban Reviews: Do you have any favorite authors or books?
Maseyree: I would have to say that Terri McMillan is my favorite author
because her book, Mama was the first non-fiction book I ever read,
that was written by an African American author. After reading Mama,
I was really inspired to write about some of the stories that lived
only in my imagination.
Urban Reviews: What do you like to do outside of writing?
Maseyree: When I am not writing I love to travel. I also enjoy singing and
dancing.
Urban Reviews: Is there anything else that you’d like to share about
yourself or your novel?
Maseyree: Go to the bookstores and request your copy of It Just Gets Better
With Time and Only Time Will Tell. Purchase the books, read them and
email me your comments. I love hearing what readers think of my
work. It also helps me to keep writing what the readers like. PLENTY
OF DRAMA!!!
