Urban Reviews: Tell us more about your latest book Moments Of
Clarity.
Michele Cameron: Moments of Clarity is a family sequel to the
novel Never Say Never that was released January 2008 through
genesis-Press, Inc. Sasha Diamond, a nurse in New York City has been
burned by love. She meets Sexton Johnson an NBA basketball player
and even though she is immediately attracted to him she is suspect
of is intense interest in her. Her doubts of men in general are
reinforced when her best friend’s husband was caught cheating on her
in the worst way possible. Sexton Johnson is a product of the foster
care system and he craves the home life that was shown to him by the
parents that eventually adopted him. From the first moment he laid
eyes on Sasha he recognized qualities in her that were in common
with his adopted mother and he knows that Sasha is the woman for
him.
Urban Reviews: Where did the storyline for this novel come from?
Michele Cameron: A couple of years ago it seemed that every time I turned on the news
there was a headline about an African-American athlete who was
trouble. If you watch sports it appears as if 80-90% of them are
African-American and the ratio is them that actually gets in trouble
is minute. You never hear the great things they do. They support
many charities with their time and money. I wanted to write a novel
that showed our athletes in a positive light.
Urban Reviews: What made you want to be a romance writer instead of another
genre of writing?
Michele Cameron: Romance is a good way to give readers an escape from the daily
humdrum of life. It also makes women think and maybe not settle for
treatment in relationships that doesn’t give them what they need.
Urban Reviews: What was your biggest challenge to overcome in regards to your
novels?
Michele Cameron: TIME! Being a high school English teacher can be overwhelming. I
feel as if I have three jobs and teaching is two of the three.
Urban Reviews: What things are you doing to promote your work?
Michele Cameron: I’ve had quite of few interviews on BAN radio. Book clubs have been
asking me to visit and I’ve written articles for websites and
they’ve published them on the internet and their websites. What has
been the most effective in your opinion? The BAN radio gives instant
feedback.
Urban Reviews: If you had the opportunity, what author would you love to work
with in the future and why?
Michele Cameron: John Grisham. Even though he doesn’t write romance I feel his novels
have a clear message. The underdog always wins if their heart’s in
the right place. I want to be known as the John Grisham of the
romance genre.
Urban Reviews: What's next on the horizon for Michele Cameron?
Michele Cameron: My third novel, When Lightning Strikes!, will be released August 2009.
It explores the subjects of alcohol abuse, family counseling, and
the second chance for a one of a kind love. In this novel, I also
shed light as to how the Brown vs. Board of Education came to light. My fourth novel titled, Unclear and
Present Danger will be
released February 2010 and is my second interracial novel. The heroine is
black and the male lead is Arab-American. As I watched President Barack Obama seek office, I was appalled by some of the media
coverage that suggested that he is not an American. Also, his
religious beliefs were questioned. This country was formed on the
idea of freedom of religion and people need to remember that.
Urban Reviews: What advice would you give to someone thinking about becoming
an author?
Michele Cameron: Do your own thing and don’t try to mimic other authors writing
style.
Urban Reviews: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Michele Cameron: Hopefully retired from teaching and able to write full time. As all
authors, I would like my novels to be made into movies so that my
messages will be seen by millions. I want my cache as an author to
be that my novels have substance to them and every time you read one
you learn something valuable.
Urban Reviews: Is there anything else you would like to share with us about you
or your books?
Michele Cameron: In all of my books my characters have mind blowing sex. They have
the kind of sex that once you have it, you never forget it and you
always crave it. But I also have an underlying theme of social
consciousness in them. Because of this my novels are suitable for
men and women to enjoy. My hope as an author is that once a person
closes the book on the last page is that he or she feels a
catharsis, a purging of their soul, and the feeling that it’s not
them alone in a sometimes cruel and unfair world.
