Monique Rose knew there had to be more to life than what she
had experienced within the state limits of Wisconsin, and
she was itching to grow and expand her boundaries.
Monique's personal life is like that of many women in
today's hectic world. As a wife, mother of two, business
owner and entrepreneur, she epitomizes the concept of
multi-tasking on a daily basis. Yet, through it all writing
and reading books are her biggest passions. Her hope
is to open have readers imaginations to the unknown between
the pages of her books.

Urban Reviews:
Tell our readers about Sex Degrees of Separation.
Monique
Rose: Sex Degrees of Separation is an urban
tale of six people and the way that they are bound to one
another. It incorporates a cautionary tale of safe sex
(or lack thereof) with drugs, violence, betrayal, corruption,
double-lives, and even love. The characters are
inevitably connected by one common thread. The manner in
which they individually are at risk is as different as their
backgrounds and personalities. The revelation of the
weightiness of their situations causes them all to look at
life from a new standpoint. Unfortunately for some of
the characters, their new found stance has come too late and
they are already affected in ways some may regret.
Urban Reviews:
How did you come up with the idea for this book?
Monique
Rose: I have always loved writing but one night I
woke up with some characters very carefully and very
specifically etched in my mind. I began to write down
all of their characteristics and a story began to form about
how they all would somehow be connected. It honestly
just came to me.
Urban Reviews:
What was it that pushed you to want to become a writer?
Monique
Rose: I believe that my motivation came when I began
to really inquire about my purpose in this life. I
believe that I have been blessed with a talent for writing and
some wonderful stories and characters to share with the world
and I wanted to make sure I did just that.
Urban Reviews:
Name at least one thing that you would have done differently
in regards to your book?
Monique
Rose: Hmmm...I can name a couple! But, to start I
would have made sure it was a more extensive editing process
before I decided to just go to print with it. I had so
many supporters saying "We love the story, just go for it"
when I should have taken a more professional approach to
publishing and marketing.
Urban Reviews:
What are your ultimate goals as far as the literary industry?
Monique
Rose: Ultimately I would like to have writing be my
career. I would love for my livelihood to be supported
solely by my craft. Of course I wouldn't abandon my
other ventures but I would love to be able to support myself
and my family off of something that I love to do.
Urban Reviews:
What things did you do to help prepare yourself for the
release of your debut novel?
Monique
Rose: Oh, I read constantly! I didn't take any
classes but I engrossed myself with the world of publishing
and tried to learn as much as I could from other, already
established authors. I try to learn something new every day.
Urban Reviews:
Do you have any upcoming projects that we can look forward to?
Monique
Rose: Yes! I am working on another novel entitled
Joy that I can't seem to hide from anymore! I wanted to
immediately do a sequel to Sex Degrees of Separation,
but my heart is telling me different. This next novel is
polar opposite of my first but still a very engaging tale of
overcoming an obstacle and a very real tale of the ultimate
betrayal.
Urban Reviews:
Do you have any favorite authors or books?
Monique
Rose: There are too many to name! I love a variety
of fiction though...
Urban Reviews:
What's the best literary advice you've gotten from another
author so far?
Monique
Rose: I was told to stay true to my story.
Never to apologize for what I've written and not to feel as if
I need to defend what I've created. I really needed that
advice and it has stayed with me since she took the time to
share with me.
Urban Reviews:
Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself
or your novel?
Monique
Rose: I would like everyone to know that I think
Sex Degrees of Separation is a story unlike any other I
can think of. It is real life and there is someone in my
story that you can relate to or someone you may know on a very
personal level. One of my characters may just be you. I
hope that there is a lesson taught and learned from my story
and I hope it affects at least one person in a positive way.
That would make me happy beyond belief. Finally, thank
you so much to Urban Reviews for giving me this opportunity! |
