Markeise
Q. Washington (MQW)
Born November 21, 1984 in South Philadelphia, PA, Markeise
Q. Washington was always more mature than his age
suggested. He is absolutely making his mark with his debut
novel Entrepreneur, and the young C.E.O is working
diligently to get 5ive Star Publications up and running.
Having been somewhat of a Nomad during his childhood, He
is determined to excel at whatever he puts his mind to.
Becoming his own boss was one of his goals and
aspirations. Being surrounded by supportive parents and
siblings only make his journey all the better.
Destined and encouraged to do great things Markeise is
constantly reminded of the early and unfortunate passing
of his biological mother whom is indeed the catalyst to
his success. Proactive, determined, thought provoking and
intelligent Markeise Q. Washington will always and forever
remind us that "Dreams are today's answers to tomorrow's
questions."

Urban Reviews: Start by
telling our readers about Entrepreneur.
MQW:
Entrepreneur is my
debut novel. Swift is a college graduate determined to excel
in the corporate world. When he figures out a degree doesn't
guarantee him a job he gets frustrated. The decisions he
makes regarding this ultimately change the course of his
life forever.
Urban Reviews: What
inspired you to create this storyline?
MQW: I remember
watching HBO's The Wire one day being inspired. I
didn't want my characters to flip on each other. I wanted
them to stick together no matter what. I had the story in my
head playing out like a movie in book format. That's the way
I hoped it would come across.
Urban Reviews: How
did you start your literary career?
MQW: I have been
writing short stories since I was around ten years old. I
never tried to write a full length novel until now though.
Urban Reviews: What
made you decide to self-publish your novel?
MQW: I wanted to
own my book. I felt like who could push me better than me. I
started my own publishing imprint to put my books out as
well as other authors.
Urban Reviews: What
would you say are the strengths and weaknesses of
self-publishing?
MQW: The strength
to me is being in total control of every aspect of the
publishing process. The weakness may be the grind that comes
along with it. It is hard work to write, market, edit, and
be responsible for the outcome. I knew when I started 5ive
Star Publications that I would have to handle those things.
It really depends on your level of tolerance.
Urban Reviews: What
have you learned about the book industry being a relatively
new author?
MQW: I have
learned that word of mouth is your best friend. I can't
count how many times I have read a book based on what my
friends said. Also that relationship building is vastly
important. Lastly, you have to know your target audience.
Urban Reviews: Are
you working on any upcoming projects?
MQW: I am working
on three other books. I am also working on the script for
Entrepreneur: The Movie. I want to build up my
publishing company 5ive Star Publications as well.
Urban Reviews: What
advice would you give to aspiring authors?
MQW: Believe in
your work...always. Hard work gets you to where you want to
be. Never conform...Stay true to you.
Urban Reviews: Name
one thing that the would does not know about MQW - the
person?
MQW: I use my
late mother as my motivation. Everything I embark on, I act
as if she is here seeing me through it. She has gotten me
through some trying times. |
