Urban Reviews: Can you tell
us what your latest book Somebody's Sinning In My Bed is all
about?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: Somebody's Sinning
In My Bed is based upon the Biblical story of the woman
caught in the very act of adultery (John 8: 3-11); a powerful,
thought-provoking novel about a fallen First Lady’s path to
redemption.
Urban Reviews: How did
you come up with the concept for this novel?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: The concept for this
story has been with me for awhile. I’ve been fascinated by the
story of the woman caught in the act of adultery for quite
some time. I wondered what happened to the man she was with?
Was it “church folks” who were prepared to stone her? Did she
actually believe she was forgiven, or did she think herself
lesser than Jesus did?
Urban Reviews: When did
you know you wanted to be a writer?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: From the time I could
read a book alone and imagine a world or situation as I would
want it to be I’ve wanted to be a writer.
Urban Reviews: Is there
anything you know now that you wish you had known when you
first emerged on the literary scene?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: Yes, I would
definitely have taken more time and prayer to choose a
literary agent. Unfortunately, I had to sue an agent for
taking monies that belonged to me. It was in the thousands of
dollars, and I’m still locked in a court battle, to recover
those monies.
Urban Reviews: You also
do comedy across the country as Sister Betty. What are your
plans for Sister Betty?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: As Sister Betty I am
definitely still in demand. I took some time off when
diagnosed with cancer. Of course, I prayed and laughed my way
to healing and I’m ready to hit the road again. I will also
have more Sister Betty books published by Kensington/Dafina. I
(Holy Humor) am also producing a Soap Opera/Talk Show called,
“The chURch Nuttz.” On board with this havoc is the
incomparable Jeanette Hill of Sight Ain’t Seeing Productions
and Christian comedian, D’Lo of Upstage Comedians.
Urban Reviews: What are
your ultimate goals as a writer and entertainer?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: My ultimate goals are
wide open as I allow for the Holy Spirit to have Its way in my
life; both personally and professionally. I’ve learned from
readers that it’s important that no matter how funny the story
they still expect a lesson.
Urban Reviews: Do you
have any ideas or plans for your next book project that you'd
like to share?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: Yes, I would love to
share some of my plans. The next book will have the return of
the beloved and quirky Deacon Thurgood Pillar. According to
most of the reviews, it was the deacon that stole the show in
Somebody's Sinning In My Bed. And, of course, Sister
Betty and those other zany church folks will return for more
spiritual and non-spiritual mayhem.
Urban Reviews: What
changes have you seen in the literary world that have impacted
how you write, promote, or market your projects?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: I’ve seen many
changes. Most notably I’ve noticed the change in determining
what is Christian Fiction, Inspiration, Urban Fiction, etc.
Depending on the story line the marketing/promotion efforts
are customized to fit each project. As far as it effecting my
writing…it does not. I write what I’m led to write and will
not compromise it.
Urban Reviews: What do
you like to do outside of gospel comedy and books? (Hobbies,
spare time, etc.)
Pat G'Orge-Walker: I love to watch
Westerns and Karate movies along with comedies, of course, I
also enjoy various church and anything to do with my beloved
husband Robert. The time I also spend with my grandchildren
and great grandbabies are priceless.
Urban Reviews: Is there
anything else you would like to share with us about you or
your books?
Pat G'Orge-Walker: I would love to share
my testimony of battling cancer.
In April 2009 I received the news that I had cancer. As I
sat in my GYN doctor's office I started laughing. She didn't
know what to make of it and was even more shocked when I
started laughing during the discussion with the Oncologist. I
began to blog about my experience on FB and never stopped
laughing. The Oncologist wanted to perform surgery
immediately. I told him "No." I was headlining a comedy show
on June 20th so it would have to be after that date.
Many people reached out to me; some wondered if I'd lost my
mind because I was laughing so much and others shared that
they too were going through something similar and decided to
laugh. Well I had my surgery on June 22, 2009 and when I
returned for my check up I was "cancer-free." They'd gotten
all of it and there was no need for chemo or radiation.
You see; I could laugh and have peace because I know the
Prince of Peace. I never once doubted that God would heal me
and He did just that. However, the real testimony comes in
that during a review of my medical history that in 1987 there
had already been a diagnosis of "Endometrial Cancer." Not one
doctor noted the pathology report nor followed up on it. In
other words, for more than 22 years God had not allowed the
cancer to spread.
I'm a living testimony that Faith and Laughter makes a
powerful antidote... I had a full hysterectomy a month ago and
yet I just returned from Florida where I continued to laugh.
Don't let the devil or any situation steal your joy.... Laugh
your way through it.
God bless and thank you Urban Reviews. |
