Urban Reviews:  Tell us about your latest book Pulpit Confessions.
Péron F. Long:  Pulpit Confessions is a story about transgressions and ultimately conviction.  Basically we often see only the outside of people.  We never really get the opportunity to understand fully those who walk in the Light.  I set out to create a story that chronicled the life of one individual that went full circle in how he was created into the person that he had become, who wrestled with the person he actually was.

Urban Reviews:  What inspired you to write this novel?
Péron F. Long:  My inspiration for this novel was based on the current state of today's Spiritual community.  Over the past several months we have seen the fall of congregations due to the acts of Man.  My goal while writing Pulpit Confessions was to show a more humanistic side of those viewed as the epitome of Righteousness.

Urban Reviews:  What was the most difficult part of writing your book?
Péron F. Long:  The most difficult part for me in writing Pulpit Confessions was having concerns of how readers would accept much of the content in it.  I wanted to ensure that although there was a lot of drama as well as sex, I wanted the spiritual aspect of it to be understood as well.

Urban Reviews:  Do you have anything else that you are working on?
Péron F. Long:  My next book Livin' Ain't Easy will be released in early 2009 from Urban Books.  I am also currently working on a new project entitled The First Person.

Urban Reviews:  Why did you want to become a writer?
Péron F. Long:  I strongly believe that I was born a writer.  From the stories told to me by my mother, I began to teach myself to read and write at age 4 and actually began developing stories at age 6.  Writing has always been a part of me and I’ve written several short stories and novels over the years.  I never truly thought about publishing my work until maybe 5 or 6 years ago.

Urban Reviews:  What is the biggest thing that you've learned about the book industry? Is it what you expected it to be?
Péron F. Long:  There are several things I’ve learned about this industry but I would say the biggest would be the importance of being patient.  I entered the industry somewhat blind without any expectations.  The ride thus far has been very interesting.

Urban Reviews:  What are your goals as an author?
Péron F. Long:  Most writers hope to see their work elevate to the big screen and I am no different.  However, I would have to say that my ultimate goal as an author would be to have longevity in this industry.

Urban Reviews:  Do you have any favorite authors or books?
Péron F. Long:  My favorite authors are James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, James Patterson, Judy Blume (Yes I am a "Fudge" fanatic. Lol) Eric Jerome Dickey, Dwayne Joseph, Carl Weber, Nelson George and MANY, MANY MORE! As for books there are hundreds I can name but I must say that after reading Seduced by Nelson George, my desire to actually become a published author took a life of its own.

Urban Reviews:  What is your opinion on the state of the African-American Fiction market?
Péron F. Long:  I actually love the current state of the African-American Fiction Market.  There are many authors, as well as genres to choose from allowing all tastes to be satisfied as well as open minds to all of the varied areas of the African-American community.

Urban Reviews:  What do you want the world to know most about you as an author?
Péron F. Long:  I want to be known as a writer who not only possess the passion of the craft but one who also possesses the desire to educate and bring forth issues that affect our community while creating entertaining tales at the same time.
