Urban Reviews: Tell us
about Satisfied.
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
Satisfied is an
erotic tale of a young woman, Ebony caught in a downward
spiral full of lies, jealousy, and unwanted affection all in
her search to be Satisfied! This young woman finds herself
mixed up in a whole lot of drama with her married boss.
Urban Reviews: What
inspired you to write this story?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
I was inspired to write this story
because normally, when you read or hear about office
romance, you think it's just sex. I wanted to tell both
sides of the story.
Urban Reviews: How
did you get into the literary industry?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
My first novel There's No Turning
Back was published with Trafford. I started Erotic Ink
Publishing and Satisfied is the debut novel on this
company.
Urban Reviews: What
obstacles have you faced being a relatively new author in
the book business?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
I decided to self publish because
there is a lot of authors out today looking for a publishing
company. With that competition, it’s hard to get your foot
into the door. With self publishing, I make all decisions. I
enjoy being the boss.
Urban Reviews: Are
you working on any projects for the future?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
Yes, I’m working on my third novel.
The title is yet to be determined. It’s about a young
woman who is on the chase of money. She starts dealing with
a local hustler, and it gets her caught up in drama, drugs,
and deception.
Urban Reviews: Was
there anyone or anything specifically that influenced you to
want to be a writer?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
Terri A. O'Neal. I sent her a fan
letter telling her how much I love her poetry. I told her
about my first book that I was working on but had not
published it at the time because of all of the rejections.
She influenced my decision to self publish.
Urban Reviews:
What's the best advice you've gotten from fellow authors?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
"You have written a page-turning novel
and you are going to be big." This is what Paula Edwards
told me when I was debating leaving Trafford and starting
EIP.
Urban Reviews: Do
you have any favorite authors or books?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
Eric Jerome Dickey, Paula Edwards,
Carl Weber, Leila Jefferson, Claudia Brown-Mosley, and Rory
Sheriff.
Urban Reviews: What
do you like to do aside from writing?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
I enjoy being a mom and reading books
by my favorite authors.
Urban Reviews: What
do you want people to know most about you?
Rukyyah J. Karreem:
I have a passion for writing and
reading. I love to share that passion with them. Even the
ones that believe they don't like to read. Just pick up a
book and read it until it's over! It will make you feel good
about your new accomplishment.
