Urban Reviews: Tell our
readers about The Ultimate No No.
Tamika Newhouse: Well, The Ultimate No
No is about a women who is scorn and attempts to use her
friend as a source to break his heart. It showcases many
relationships. Friendships, and brotherhood. You experience
reality in this book because it is far from a fairy tale.
Urban Reviews: Where did
the idea for this novel come from?
Tamika Newhouse: I knew I wanted to write
a book based on romance and I also knew that I wanted this
book to be more realistic. I know books have to have some
entertainment I it, hints the drama that is filled in this
book. I wanted readers to say I know someone just like that.
Urban Reviews: What are
your goals as a writer? What things are you doing to help you
with accomplishing those goals?
Tamika Newhouse: I want to aim towards
having recognizable story lines and for people to realize that
they can get reality from me and nothing sugar coated. I
strategize in my head of ways I want to address my stories. I
take plenty of notes, and I am currently in college. I speak
to many readers asking them what they desire. I want to have
their opinion because its most important.
Urban Reviews: Has there
been anything that you've done that you would do differently
in hindsight?
Tamika Newhouse: The story line is the
way I wanted it to be. There are a lot of characters on
purpose and I gave the characters tell the story. I would have
not changed the story. I however learned a lot on the
publishing process and I am perfecting that.
Urban Reviews: What's the
best advice any author has given you concerning the book
business?
Tamika Newhouse: To take notes and meet
many of people. To ask authors about their experience. Meeting
people is the key because you get to learn a lot of
information from different people.
Urban Reviews: What has
been your biggest challenge as a new author?
Tamika Newhouse: As a new author no one
knows your books, your ability as a writer and if your novels
will be entertaining. The challenge is to gain one reader at a
time and build a reputation as a good writer. This is why I
rigorously self promote my novel.
Urban Reviews: Are you
working on or have any ideas for an upcoming project?
Tamika Newhouse: Yes. I am working on the
sequel to my debut titled The Ultimate Moment: No Regrets.
I am also writing my third novel Cookie: A Fort Worth Story
loosely based off my life as a teen.
Urban Reviews: Do you
have any favorite authors or books?
Tamika Newhouse: Yes I loved the early
novels by Eric Jerome Dickey, Mary Monroe, the book Flyy
Girl, You, Me, and He by Brooke Green, and a few
classic favorites. But I really can open and read all books.
Urban Reviews: What do
you like to do outside of writing?
Tamika Newhouse: I love watching my shows
on TV, reading a good book, eating, sleeping, and that’s about
it. I am a real home body.
Urban Reviews: Is there
anything else you would like to share about yourself or your
novel?
Tamika Newhouse: I will like to say that
I am passionate about my writing and I will always bring
something dramatic, realistic, relatable, and entertaining. If
you can handle a page turner then you can handle any of my
novels. |
