Inside Out
with Terren Grimble

Terren Grimble

Terren Grimble was born and raised in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. She attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida where she earned her B.S. in Business Economics.

Terren started writing short stories as a pre-teen. As she got older, her writing skills improved, yet writing remained only a hobby. Friends and family encouraged her to try her hand at writing a novel. Her first efforts birthed Love Lessons.

In Love Lessons, Terren wanted to show the main male character, Ronnie, as a sort of Black 'Prince Charming' since brothers are rarely shown in this light. She wants her readers to go away with the truth—that there are still some good brothers out there.

Terren currently resides in Mitchellville, Maryland with her husband, and two daughters. She is currently working on her second novel.

Urban Reviews:  Tell us about Love Lessons.
Terren Grimble:
Love Lessons is about a girl named Stacey Jackson who appears to have the perfect life. She is a senior at Howard University with brains, beauty and popularity. In spite of having a loving family and a handsome boyfriend named Patrick, all is not what it seems...especially when it comes to her and Patrick’s relationship. As Stacey struggles with the decision to end her dysfunctional relationship with Patrick, her long-time crush Ronnie Morgan enters the picture and adds to an already complicated situation. All the feelings she’s held on to since their freshman year begins to surface, and it doesn’t take long for her to give into her desires.

Urban Reviews:  Where did you come up with the idea for this novel?
Terren Grimble:
Believe it or not, the idea actually came from a story I wrote in middle school. Of course it’s evolved over the years. And as I got older and more mature, so did my characters.

Urban Reviews:  How did you get into the business?
Terren Grimble:
A friend and fellow author, Nancey Flowers, encouraged me to take my hobby of writing to the next level. She self-published her own novel and helped me navigate through the process.

Urban Reviews:  How did you feel when you first held the copy of your book in your hands?
Terren Grimble:
It took me over 3 years to get the book printed so when I finally got my book in hand, I was thrilled.

Urban Reviews:  Any upcoming projects?
Terren Grimble:
I am currently working on the sequel to Love Lessons.

Urban Reviews:  What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into the business?
Terren Grimble:
Don’t get discouraged. There are millions of avid readers out there and they are just waiting for the next great story.

Urban Reviews:  What is the biggest thing that you've learned about the book industry?
Terren Grimble:
Writing is the easy part! Marketing and promoting the book is the hard part. You can have the best book in the world, but if it doesn’t get into the hands of the readers, it means nothing.

Urban Reviews:  Name one thing that the world does not know about Terren Grimble-the person?
Terren Grimble:
Becoming a published author truly is my dream come true. Writing has always been a very personal thing for me; my secret pleasure so it came as a surprise to everyone that I was writing a book.
