Urban Reviews: Tell us a
little about Something On The Inside.
T.N. Williams:
This story is about faith
in spite of devastating circumstances. The main character's
life drops out of her comfort zone head first and she has to
think fast on how she has to handle the fall. She has to set
aside every instinct that she knows and let God take over.
Urban Reviews: What
inspired you to write this story?
T.N. Williams: The
reality of choice. I saw Christians living fabricated
lifestyles trying to fake like everything was alright when it
wasn't. I also wanted to give a story that shook people up a
little and made them really deal with their issues instead of
hiding them.
Urban Reviews: Was it
a difficult task to actually write this novel?
T.N. Williams: No.
Actually I completed the book in a relatively short period of
time. I was in the middle of moving from Michigan to North
Carolina, but yet my family gave me space to use every spare
minute I could to write Celia's story. I also typed during my
lunch break at work. I was writing or typing all day, every
day.
Urban Reviews: Can
you tell us the moments that lead up to when you first learned
that your book would be published by Urban Christian?
T.N. Williams:
Funny thing is I wasn't finished with the manuscript when I
submitted it to Urban Christian. I didn't think I would get a
response, but said to myself that if it was meant to be then I
would know it. I was getting discouraged and doubting my
ability. Anyway, my soon-to-be editor sent me a reply within a
week and I finished the manuscript less than thirty days
later. You can ask me how and I still wouldn't be able to tell
you. I'm still in awe. Must have been sheer God.
Urban Reviews: Are
you working on any other upcoming projects?
T.N. Williams: I
have a manuscript I'm just finishing called After The
Feeling which is due out in April of 2009. Plus there will
be a sequel to Something On The Inside, which will have
readers more shocked than the first book.
Urban Reviews: Did
you choose the Christian Fiction genre or did it choose you?
T.N. Williams: It
chose me. I had other ideas and to be quite honest alot of
Christian Fiction out there was boring me to sleep and seemed
unrealistic. I felt like true Christianity was unobtainable,
because the characters appeared near perfect and fairytale
like. All the Christians I knew have been through and still
battle with wrong choices. That's what I write about...Faulty
Christians who fight to get it right.
Urban Reviews: Are
there any authors or books that inspired you to become a
writer?
T.N. Williams:
Jacquelin Thomas was the first and I picked up her book
because she had my daughter's name. Prodigal Son
allowed me to embrace Christian Fiction. I also love Maya
Angelou, James Patterson and Colin Channer.
Urban Reviews: Have
you learned any lessons yet about the book industry?
T.N. Williams: Yes,
there is a whole lot more work involved after getting
published.
Urban Reviews: What
do you hope to accomplish as an author?
T.N. Williams: I've
already made a couple best seller list including on Black
Expressions, but I hope to continue reaching audiences beyond
all genres, ages, class, nationalities and religion. I think
the subjects I write about are universal.
Urban Reviews: At the
end of the day, what do you want people to know most about
you?
T.N. Williams: That
I'm learning and growing just like the next person. |
