Inside Out
with Velvet

Velvet

Velvet is one of the steamiest writers of erotica today.  She has her finger on the pulse and knows how to make hearts race.

The Black Door
is the first in a series of highly erotic novels and promises to entertain with its tantalizing story of lust and seduction mixed with a dose of suspense.  Velvet uses the world as her muse, traveling the globe for inspiration.

She is currently working on her next book in the series. She will be doing a book signing at Hue-Man Bookstore in New York on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:00 pm.

Urban Reviews: Tell us about The Black Door.
Velvet:
The Black Door is Erotica served straight up with a Twist! By that I mean the story is extremely sexy with a dose of suspense added for an extra surprise. Without giving away the plot, I’ll basically tell you that the story is centered around the main character, Ariel Vaughn, who ventures into The Black Door, an adults only club for women. She eventually gets involved with a handsome stud, and soon her surreal sex life, begins to interfere with her real life. She tries to keep her activities at The Black Door a secret from her boyfriend, but what’s done in the dark, soon comes to light and when it does, her world and those around her are changed forever!

Urban Reviews: Where did you come up with the idea for this novel?
Velvet:
I wanted to create a story with classy characters who happen to LOVE getting their freak on! In some societies, sex still has a negative connotation. I wanted to demonstrate that just because you have a healthy libido and enjoy having sex on a regular basis, doesn’t mean you’re a sexual deviant. It’s okay to strap on a mask, and let your inhibitions flow freely.

Urban Reviews: Is The Black Door based on an actual place or is it totally fictitious?
Velvet:
The Black Door is a creation of my vivid imagination. But I’m working on creating an actual Black Door where women can enjoy a martini, a man and a great meal, and not necessarily in that order!

Urban Reviews: At the end of The Black Door, you left a little opening for a sequel. Will there be sequel or will these characters show up in another novel?
Velvet:
Yes, there will definitely be a sequel!! Watch for it next year. One of the sub-characters in the first book will show up in the second book as a main character (which will be released in August), but the second book is not the sequel. Book two is a completely different story, but exhilarating nonetheless.

Urban Reviews: Why did you choose the name Velvet and how did you get into the business?
Velvet:
Now…who’s to say that Velvet is not on my birth certificate…LOL! No, my mother didn’t name me Velvet. I chose the name because it brings to mind sensuality. Most people can relate to the softness of velvet caressing their skin, and I wanted to evoke a pleasant memory when you speak my name.

Urban Reviews: Did you choose the erotica genre or did the genre choose you?
Velvet:
Erotica chose me. Though I’ve written in other genres, I find the erotica genre most exciting. Sometimes when I’m writing a chapter, my body temperature starts to rise, and I have to stop and…

Urban Reviews: Are you working on any upcoming projects?
Velvet:
Yes. There’s going to be a Black Door series. Book two is already done, and I’m presently working on book three. The Black Door is going to be a franchise, so be on the lookout for many more Black Door novels.

Urban Reviews: What do you think of the book industry so far?
Velvet:
I’m loving this industry!! I get to let my imagination run amuck, and make a buck!!! (Hey that rhymes…LOL!) All jokes aside, I’ve seen the African-American market grow tremendously. I can remember a time when you had to scour the bookstore for a decent black novel.

Urban Reviews: Name one thing that the world does not know about Velvet...the person.
Velvet:
Outwardly I may appear to be serious, but I love to laugh!!
