Urban Reviews: Tell us about
That Was Dirty.
Wasiim: That Was Dirty
is an urban fiction cautionary tale. It captures the readers attention
with its true to life happenings and consequences.
Urban Reviews: Where did you come up with the idea for this novel?
Wasiim: I came up with
the idea for That Was Dirty from various situations in my life -
both positive and negative; then I let my creativity guide me.
Urban Reviews: Is there a message in this novel that you want readers to grasp?
Wasiim: Yes, there is a
message in That Was Dirty. In the streets, it is all about pain,
money and murder. It is not pretty out there and I wanted people to read
and feel how I saw it so they would never choose the lifestyle.
Urban Reviews: How did you get into the business?
Wasiim: I got into the
business after I contacted Ms. Em, the owner of MeJah Books Inc and A NU
Direction Publishing. I came home from prison and Ms. Em wanted to help
me. She has helped and continues to help other young men who were
incarcerated and is serious about getting their life in order.
Urban Reviews: Do you have any upcoming projects?
Wasiim: I have a second
novel coming out in the Fall of 2007 entitled Sinnamon. It is not
a sequel but it kind of intertwines with That Was Dirty. I am
excited about the story.
Urban Reviews: What have you learned about the book industry being a relatively new author? Is it what you expected?
Wasiim: I learned that
you have to be around people who love you and want the best for you. It
is definitely harder than I expected; you have to hustle hard.
Urban Reviews: What were you doing the day you found out about your book deal?
Wasiim: The day I found
out about my book deal I was thinking about staying straight and doing
straight up positive things.
Urban Reviews: How long did it take for you to complete your debut novel?
Wasiim: It took me
thirteen days to write That Was Dirty. Of course the editing and
the printing process took some time.
Urban Reviews: What do you want people to know most about you? Wasiim: What I want people to know about me is that I have changed my life around completely. I use to run the streets which landed me in jail a few time but now I am representing my book and I am working hard. I am going to succeed and if I can do it someone else who wants it bad enough can do it too. |
