Submission Guidelines
**Updated March 1, 2008**

1. You must submit a printed review copy of your work (we will no longer be accepting pdf/ebook versions for review). Any AA Fiction is acceptable (this includes Contemporary, Christian/Inspirational, Street Lit, Sci-Fi/Speculative, Romance, Young Adult/Teen, Erotica, Mystery/Suspense etc). We do feature non-fiction work on occasion at our discretion. A review copy can be a galley, advanced reader, or a final copy of your novel. If it is an uncorrected proof, the book should be marked as such or you need to tell us this in advance. If it is a final version of your book and there are editing issues, it will be reflected in the review as well as the rating for your book. Manuscripts must be approved beforehand, be bound (spiral or glue-bound), and it must already be released or is about to be released by a publisher. Self-published titles should be available for readers to purchase or pre-order at the time of your review request. For music, any copy of your cd is sufficient, whether it be a CD-R copy, promotional copy, or store-ready version.

2. If the final rating for your book review is less than a 3 out of 5, it will not be posted on the website. However, we will forward a copy of the review to the author. The reviewer will have the option of posting the review on Amazon.com under their own name and not that of Urban Reviews.

3. Only books released within the last 18 months will be considered for book reviews. No exceptions. Also, only albums within the past 6 months will be considered for music reviews.

4. There must be a direct link to a website/order page for someone to purchase a copy of your book or cd. This includes (but is not limited to) Amazon.com, BN.com, Borders.com, CushCity.com, TheBlackLibrary.com, Buy.com, or your own personal site.

5. To be considered for a book review, a book description (think Amazon.com or the back of the book) AND excerpt of your book (preferably the first chapter) must be sent via email to books@urban-reviews.com. We will notify you through email if we would like to review your novel. At that time, we will forward our mailing address so that a review copy can be mailed.

*Note: Unfortunately, we will no longer be reviewing poetry on our site. However, we do feature a Poetry section on the Author Connection page where each month we will feature a particular poet, their website, and a brief bio on the poet. If interested, simply send a short email to poetry@urban-reviews.com and we will let you know if we have chosen to spotlight you and your poetry for the Author Connection page. We will include your information in our promotional emails and postings on the net, so you'll get the same amount of exposure as titles that we review for that month.

6. To be considered for a music review, a simple email to music@urban-reviews.com telling us about yourself and your Hip-Hop or R&B cd is sufficient. A link to your website where we can preview your work is a must. After reading your email and sampling your music, we will email you back and let you know if we would like to review the entire cd for our website. At that time, we will forward our mailing address so that a review copy can be mailed.

7. Please note that there is NO GUARANTEE that your work will be reviewed on our site (unless of course we send you our mailing address to send a review copy). Currently, there is a 3 MONTH WAITING PERIOD for reviews so inquire accordingly. (i.e. if it's currently April, that means May is full and June is probably full as well...so the earliest would most likely be July 1st in this case). There is always the possibility of a slot being available earlier, but that is a rare occurrence. Also, if your book is slated to be released in the future and you want to have a review the same month your book is released, the 3 Month waiting period STILL applies. (i.e. If your book comes out September 1st, you need to contact us no later than June 1st.)

8. Please be patient when it comes to reviewing your work. We have 6 people for book reviews and 1 person for music reviews.

9. All of the above is not meant to scare anyone off. Please feel free to contact us through email at info@urban-reviews.com (do not send book/cd review requests to this address - refer to #5 above for submitting book review requests and #6 for music reviews).

10. If chosen for review, we must have a JPEG, PNG or GIF copy of the book cover or album cover. We can resize it and host the picture on our site to accompany the review.
